Not true at all. My Diamond is deactivated and I had it in my car today. I put on iGo as I was driving. It took a while to finally get a lock but it most certaintly did and it stayed connected without a problem. These devices have stand alone gps chips and do not require service. If they didn't you would not be able to get a lock at all no matter what. Not even for a second. But using a-gps as well which allows you to use cell towers in addition to the gps chip, it offers a quicker lock and supposedly more acurate spotting.

So once again, you do not need to have service to use your gps in your phone. Period.

Have you gotten TomTom to ever lock yet. If not, make sure your gps setting is on com4.

I dont use TomTom, I use iGo8. The first time it usually takes a while to lock. After the first initial time, it is much quicker going forward.

Re: TomTom 7 (7.916.9189) Graphics Issue - FIXED

to chime in on this...i have used both a touch pro and a diamond as a stand alone gps...you must disable agps in either the registry or using advance config...either way both devices suck as a gps. I am awaiting download of igo maps to try it on my tp2 as it too sucks using garmin and tomtom.

Re: TomTom 7 (7.916.9189) Graphics Issue - FIXED

I too have iGo8 (8.3.4.102680) running exceptionally well on my TP2...even with an 800x480 skin enabled.

There is, however, about a second or so of lag behind my actual location and the location displayed on the iGo interface. But honestly, its really nothing to complain about; and to paraphrase another member's post above: its not to the point where id be missing a turn or anything crucial at all. Im very pleased with the TP2's GPS/iGo8 performance thus far.

Wirelessly posted (Opera/9.60 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/5.0.15650/960; U; en) Presto/2.2.0)

ive used oncourse navigator on my diamond and touch pro and have now switched to igo since ive had my pro2. They r the same company btw. They have worked flawless for me and have never given me lag issues. Ive used copilot, garmin and they both lack quite heavily compared to igo. Igo ftw!
