I'm almost thinking it has something to do with using my Bluetooth GPS receiver. As for the QVGA version, I actually think it looks better than the VGA one anyways. (The branding icons are much more appropriately sized, for one thing.)

I highly recommend installing the QVGA version attached here. I had to rename two .DLL files in \Windows: (I was getting a "BTTrayCE.exe is not a valid program" error whenever my TP2 started up.)

\Windows\BtSdkCE30.dll
\Windows\BtCoreIf.dll

(I just added a 2 at the end of each of them but you can rename them to whatever you want as long as the name has changed; the OS won't let you delete the file for some reason but renaming is kosher.)

I will try this version when i get home, i just cant believe a device such as the tp2 having this kind of problems with apps... i hope they fix this issue

Sorry to tell you. No 3D accelaration just like the Tilt, mogul,Diamond,Pro,touch and now the Pro 2. This is not a flame.... its a fact.

i wish it worked too.
Just so people know who are looking into getting the TP2, the lack of 3D drivers has nothing to do with the issue at hand...I run iGo8 which is much more graphic intensive then TomTom and it runs absolutely perfect......

So for those lucky enought to have purchased the device, we don't need to wish these gps programs worked, because they do!

do all these GPS programs download the maps on the fly, or do they have preloaded maps? I was hoping I could get a preload for my state at least, sometimes we go out to look for geodes or off road out in the middle of the desert where we can't get reception.

These are full GPS programs. The program and all maps are stored on your device. No sprint reception is required to use these.....

Almost correct. If you have no service it will be near impossible to get a GPS fix...

You sure? You can be somewhere in the boonies, get no cell reception, but as long as you have clear view of the sky, you should be ok for GPS

These devices have stand alone gps chips which do not require cell service. If it will not lock without service then there should be a hack to allow it to. At least that is how all my past devices worked.....

...Very interesting, not believing GPS chip was deactivated on HTC Diamond that no longer has sprint service . I just stood outside for 15 mins and couldn't get any satellites on TOMTOM ..

Unfortunately they do not. Sometimes by chance you might get a very very short lock but not enough to use the signal for anything. It needs to have service....
