They're dumb

That being said, this does use the data connection for a short period of time in order to download some data about the satellites (the information that is contained in the cab tells it where to look for this data)

I've been trying to hunt down the QuickGPS as well, I used one before... but it did me no good on my p4000 until I loaded the custom rom.
Well, part of the GPS mystery has been solved for me. Telus support told me that they haven't quite figured out how to get Telus Navigator running on the TP2. There was also an allusion that they haven't quite got their head around making the GPS work properly on the device.

Hope that means hotfix but most likely it means wait a looooooong time for a ROM update that quietly fixes it. Or use a kitchen ROM

GPS works amazing after installing the Telus CAB from XDA... acquired 8 satellites within a second using Google Maps. Before the CAB install, I couldn't find one...

I don't use TELUS Navigator.

Re: How To: Configure GPS

Same result for me as well. Before installing the Telus CAB, my GPS connection was spotty at best. I'd be lucky to get a lock after 5 minuts and only 3 or 4 satellites. After the CAB install I'm constantly getting 7 to 9 satellites now and its almost instantaneous.

Consider yourself lucky - I've hard reset my device (hard reset -> custom) and loaded the cab, but my GPS just plain old doesn't work at all anymore. It worked for about a week then ... nothing.

Re: How To: Configure GPS

This gps issue is.... I don't even know.

I was thinking how far improved it has been over the last week or so since I fiddled with the CAB file and how quick the locks were today, then I went downtown Vancouver, Robinson and Granville "downtown" and it took meeasily 4 or 5 restarts of Google Maps and a soft reset of the phone before it was working.

Once it was going again, it has been super quick to lock, but it almost seems as though it gets confused every now and then.

is anyone else having the same issue?

Northernpenguin, I really think you need to take yours back, it just sounds busted in a strange and wonderful way =/

Well, I went to Telus today and they couldn't make the GPS work either. I'm just waiting for the replacement to come in now.
