My Verizon TP2 configured just fine without any cabs. When I launch Google maps it finds 7-8 satellites and locks on within 20 meters.

Re: How To: Configure GPS

I did nothing on my VZW TP2 except turn Location on and run quickGPS I have had steady locks in a few seconds and it is almost spot on everytime. I am sitting in my office and connected to Bings track my location and found my exact location in about a second. I do not have a window office either.

Re: How To: Configure GPS

I concur that on a VzW TP2, there shouldn't be any cabs needed. I was able to turn location on, download the QuickGPS data, and fire it up on TomTom using the 'internal gps' option in the GPS Configuration menu. You can also manually configure TomTom (and iGo) to use it by selecting COM 4.

How long does it take you to get lock? After a soft reset? Thx

I (mostly) get locks, but they usually take minutes. When I trialled VZN, it was getting locks in seconds, so it's not a HW limitation on my phone.

Re: How To: Configure GPS

Verizon GPS seems to work nicely right out of the box without this hack. Just ran QuickGPS, let it update, ran Google Maps, phone told me the GPS was off and took me right to the phone settings (nice!) where I set it from 911 Only to Location On. Got the aGPS lock immediately, took maybe 15 secs to get the initial satellite lock, and from then on it's been virtually instantaneous when I check traffic in the evenings. Just try to make sure you're outdoors when getting the initial lock, it will go much more smoothly.

Re: How To: Configure GPS

Had trouble installing Google Maps on my VXW Touch Pro 2. Get an error message saying it doesn't work on my phne. I have built-in navigation in my car, so probably wouldn't use it that much. But would be nice to have something other than VZW Navigator when I do travel so i don't have to take the TomTom along.

Any suggestions.

Re: How To: Configure GPS

Somehow my VZW TP2 is now doing cellular instead of GPS Sat triangulation. Best fix I can get is between 1500 & 1900 meters. Any ideas on how I can get it back to Sat triangulation? Using a fresh install of Google Maps.

Re: How To: Configure GPS

I have Sprint TP2 and my GPS is immediate as well (stock gps with no regedits). After softreset google maps takes about 20 seconds to lock, then its instant from then on.
I did try a few different tracking programs, and VisualGPSCE seemed to cause a com port issue (it has to get direct access instead of using the windows driver), and then I'd get gps issues where it wouldnt lock and use cell towers, but soft-reset fixes that. I've since removed VisualGPSCE and now I use tracker.cab (found on xda) to save my bike rides with no issues and great accuracy.
