having wifi ON is not enough it has to actually be CONNECTED to a router or something.

mine is set to auto connect (it will always auto connect if you tell it to you have to do it manually one time for each router after that auto connect)

if I turn on wifi and one of my auto connect routers is nearby and connectible it connects and does not use the 3g all automatically on its own. just wait for the "wifi" to actually connect before you start using data.
