Tom Tom 6 loaded all my maps for the US and Canada onto the 2GB mini SD card and works with no data connection. The only time I need data is if I use the Tom Tom Plus service for weather, traffic updates ( very cool ) and adding more updated maps and points of interest.

so then the OP just needs to make sure he/she doesnt have the "PLUS" version it sounds like and all should be well
