Re: Touch Pro 2 no longer available through Asurion

For what I get from Sprint compared to what I got from VZW, I can't complain. I've got 5 phones, 1500 minutes, unlimited text, pic, vid, unlimited data on my TP2, yearly upgrades on my line, pic 5 on 3 phones, pic 3 on the other 2, unlimited home to cell on all 5 lines, airrave and I pay $120 per month, taxes included. And I can get any phone Sprint offers on my line. All you need to do is talk to retentions and not scream and yell, and they seem to be willing to bend over backwards to retain their customer base. Now I've had nothing but issues when I had VZW, even with insurance I had to jump through hoops to get anything from them, they even refused to remove the $40 in data charges to d/l spanish and latin music when I report my mothers phone lost within 30 minutes of it being lost. In that 30 minutes the finder started downloading all sorts of crap and they blatantly refuse to refund the money, even though in the 10 years she had a phone the woman never downloaded anything. I would personally rather deal with Sprint and try to work deals with them, even if it meant getting off SERO than going to another carrier, it signal, etc is all equal. Their CS IMO is far better than VZW. End rant... I'm off the soapbox now.... And wasn't this thread supposed to be about assurion, not a pissing match about carriers and SERO?

It's not a question of "some" phones. It's a question of all major new smartphones in the last couple years (and even some moderately intelligent phones like the Instinct). To anyone who is on a smartphone, you don't go back. If Sprint it no longer going to have a current smartphone available for purchase or replacement that can be used on SERO, I would say that qualifies as a sign that Sprint is "wanting to move people off SERO." If indeed the TP2 can't be obtained from Asurion anymore, we're getting closer to the point where staying on SERO may not be as much of an option even with the same phone if it breaks. And the TP2 is likely to be discontinued by the end of the year, so we're approaching a point where not only can't people move forward to a newer phone, but where replacements can only be found on ebay. To me that seems like a pretty strong strategy to move people off of SERO.

Most people -- smartphone users especially -- don't want to use the same phone for more than a year or two these days. It's silly to suggest that giving us no options, even to replace a lost or broken phone, is anything less than a strategy to get rid of us.

So, you're saying you want to have your cake, and eat it too? Sprint is honoring your old plans even though they've been disconinued. If you want to keep the plan, keep the hardware too, if you want to have the latest and greatest smartphone on the block, then switch plans... you've been getting a sweetheart deal long enough... I really wish Sprint would just end SERO all together because I'm honestly sick of listening to you all bitch about it!

+1 to this, and slowly watching the SERO gravy train coming in for retirement.

No, actually, I'm willing to accept that SERO will come to an end, though obviously I'd rather it doesn't. I'm not upgrade eligible until September, so I'll wait the extra month to see if the Oct 1 rumors discussed elsewhere come true. But if they don't, I'll give it up in order to get what I want.

My point though was that the user who suggested that Sprint isn't actively trying to force people off SERO is mistaken. They're absolutely trying to do that, and if Asurian can no longer provide a phone that is equivalent in specs to the TP2 and SERO compatible (which basically would be the TP2 itself), that will mean that people can't always do what you suggest. Phones break and get lost/stolen, and if the insurance program won't replace it with something that doesn't require a plan change or is a step backwards than what we had, that's just one more hurdle for anyone who is actually willing to stay with the TP2 forever in the name of SERO. With Asurian not carrying it anymore, and with a discontinuation of the TP2 inevitable at some point (probably before the year is out), eBay's going to be the only choice.

I tried to order one yesterday from assurion, they offered me the moment, I said that was a no go simply because I'm on SERO. I asked will they be getting anymore and the rep said she didn't see any on backorder and none in the warehouse. I just called them right now and I was able to get my Sprint TP2 ordered but it will take 5 to 7 business because it's on backorder, the lady promised me it would be a TP2 because I told her my story yesterday about being offered a phone I didn't want---the moment. I will keep you guys posted when I receive my package!

So the question is... how long as SERO been unavailable for new customers? Probably longer than the TP2 has existed. They've continued to grandfather in phones, but sooner or later and end must come!

Live with it, don't break your phone, and figure out the budget for the extra $30 when the time comes!
