gmail imap question... what setting do i have to put it on

i just setup gmail on my phone to download, and have noticed that each time i delete a file off my phone, it deletes it off the desktop version and i have to go find it in the deleted folders section.

i tried looking for the settings on my phone to change, but haven't found anything.

help please!
