I was hi-res movies (h.264, flv, xvid) on my TP2 w/ 6.5 & Sense 2.5 all the time. My TP2 tears at the very beginning, but thats it.

The TP2 bashing was only because a new sleeker phone was on the market. After using my friend's EVO, Im glad I didnt waste my money. He doesn't like it either, says he doesn't see what all the hype was about. I'm a Linux user and Android fan, but the EVO is a disappointment.

There is a learning curve associated with this including flashing/cooking custom roms, visiting tp2 themes threads, exploring different ui's etc, etc... It takes a certain person, which many of us are to do this stuff all the time. So lack of knowledge on what's available has a lot to do with it.
Personally I've had a great experience with the tp2 and consider it a stable device to use daily. However I wouldn't feel that way if I wasn't flashing custom roms or searching for new themes and cabs to mod sense, etc. I can understand if people want a better out of box experience with these devices, but frankly that's just not going to happen now, until w7 (at least I hope). But I can respect the fact that some of the members just don't want to spend the time, just realize that's your decision.
If a device requires all of that effort to work decently, it sucks.

Imagine if when buying a car, it required you to rebuild the motor, use a computer and tune the fuel maps, change out the gears in the rear end, and repaint it before the car was to your liking.

That wouldnt be a very successful car.

uh even with mightyrom and other rom's I still get issues that want me to chuck this phone against the wall.. It locks up on me all the time, screen goes black then it refuses to wake up.. Oh and it freezes up when people text me..

It's happened with both my stock sprint rom and mighty rom.

Re: Whats up with everyone hating the Touch Pro 2 all of a sudden?

Interesting, I have an EVO now but I wouldn't say the TP2 is the worst phone ever, the only problem I had was the normal lag from time to time regardless of the ROM I used. I actually feel sentimental about making the switch which is why I am over here in the TP2 forum just seeing what's going on. The info I read about Windows Phone 7 is what ultimately made me switch. I miss my free WiFi router, not paying the 30 bucks for it on Sprint, and I am not brave enough to root my phone to get it for free yet, so I'll just USB tether for free. I can see why Microsoft scrapped the current WM platform though.

Interesting assessment, I actually think the EVO is a beast of a phone compared to my TP2 and I am not one to bash my TP2, that is a great phone as well, the only problem I had was the lag even with tweaks and ROMs. I didn't have to pay much for the EVO by using the upgrade on one of my lines, getting a $70 credit and selling the TP2 on ebay (in the process of), I actually make a profit. I would not have paid $500 for it though as a TP2 owner. I wish it had a keyboard early on but I have gotten used to it as I am typing from it now.

I understand what you are saying. That's why I essentially said if you prefer a better out of box experience, than its probably not a good idea to get a ppc in general. But part of the fun of these devices and this forum is being able to modify it and try different roms, themes, etc. Perfection is boring if you ask me Really after using custom roms like Mr. X, Vin Rom, and MightyMike, etc.. the tp2 is as usuable as any device in the market. Most roms threads give us tons of info in the first couple posts that cover 95% of post flash issues anyway.
Personally I didn't like the sprint 6.1 stock at all. looked pretty ugly but was usable. their 6.5 release was much better imo though. But I can see how some would be confused on how to use it.

Re: Whats up with everyone hating the Touch Pro 2 all of a sudden?

im not gonna read to much of this thread cuz it seems like its turned into a flamer but here is my take. the tp2 is the greatest windows mobile phone ever made imo. the form factor is perfect and the keyboard is unmatched. i just sold my incredible this afternoon (2 months old and sold for retail!! gotta love shortages) so i will be back in tp2 land fulltime for a couple weeks till the X drops. huge difference in speed and performance but this phone still just rocks!!!

People do that with Harleys all the time, and I suspect people do it with cars too.

People modify cars as a hobby.

No one goes to the Honda dealer and buys a Civic knowing that they're going to have replace the engine and reprogram the computer to make it work decently.
