Re: Why is everyone so against the WModem concept for TP2?
well WModem is shareware isnt it?? if so, its not like you can give it to us so we can play around with it
**EDIT** you said you were using the "old mogul hack" all this time.. even though it worked on the tP1 as it was.. did you try this one http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.p...90&postcount=1 which is what TP1 users were told to do??

Re: Why is everyone so against the WModem concept for TP2?
didnt answer me, is it free?? also did you try my link above? and heres another, but im not gonna register to see the link to the fix http://mobilesoftwareworld.forumotio...ivers-t224.htm
also you have to realize it may not be compatible in 6.5 sense 2.5.. theres plenty of things that are different and wont work between 6.1, 6.5/2.1 and 6.5/2.5 Last edited by boredandtattooed; 05-24-2010 at 02:39 AM. |

Re: Why is everyone so against the WModem concept for TP2?
Yes, wmodem is free. HTC included it on alot of phone, sometimes crippled.
The ppcgeeks link you mentioned above leads to the downloading ot the same set of files I am talking about. I couldn't get into the mobilesoftware link but appear to be same set of files as well Perhaps someone here w/ TP2 and still have6.1 don't mind testing it out. I have a feeling that it might still work on TP2 w/ 6.1? If someone has TP2 w/ custom 6.5 rom don't mind trying it? I can't say for sure but I do believe that it is possible because when I ran WModem on the TP2 my computer did detect the TP2 as HTC modem. It just that after I initiate the dial-in, it get stucked on the user verification screen shown on the pc. The phone itself does appear to initiate some sort of attempt to connect Because of what I've seen, I have a feeling that HTC/Sprint might have changed something, possibly in registry. They've done some real shi#*y things like taking away the taskmanager at the top and hiding the owner'info from today screen, both ot these I've been able to get back with some work. I am sure there are more deVious stupid things they did to 6.5 which I've not got to Like I said in another thread about all phone GPS are not equal. All tethering methods are not equal. For most people I agree that tethering w/ ICS or WModem, probably make no difference or probably easier to setup w/ ICs. However If anyone ever tether and takes advantage ot the benefits (and they are definitely a lot) of wmodem method, they would miss that. The benefit of a non-NAT'ed public ip w/ WModem have lots of benefits esp w/ VPN and firewall. And should I even mention decreased latency and slightly fasten speed? (I confirmed this w/ testing to the same sites on DSLreports yesterday by connecting my old TP w/wmodem back on my acc.and then switching back to TP2 on my acc) I don't think I am alone in seeing the benefit of wmodem method. If anyone else wants to know the advantage ot tethering w/ wmodem, see the link on my first post in this thread as well as this link: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...ghlight=WModem If anyone knows of another way which offer the same benefits as WModem, let me know. Thnx Edit: tried usbmodem (the prog mentioned at begin of mogul thread).Doesn't even put phone into modem mode. Computer detect TP2 as phone instead ot modem and trigger TP2 to ask what type of usb connection you want. So WModem is still closer as it does make TP2 looks like a modem to the computer, Now I need to Manually uninstall usbmodem as it refuses to uninstall ![]() Last edited by wildpig; 05-24-2010 at 08:06 AM. |

Re: Why is everyone so against the WModem concept for TP2?
have you tried going back to sprint 6.1/2.1 and seeing if it works???
edit, I was actually gonna try on my custom ROM if it works, but that's a lot of freaking steps to tether. I can see why you are having a hard time finding people who will try it.

Yes it is a lot of work but the benefit of a non NAT ip and decreased lateney and increased speed and lower phone cpu usage totally worth it. Once you rip the benefit you definite put up w/ extra steps. Much appreciate any helps/input |

Re: Why is everyone so against the WModem concept for TP2?
I usually just use CMInternetSharing to provide a WiFi hotspot, rather than USB tethering (unless I need to charge my phone). But try this program out for USB. I have it installed and it does work great.
I'm also on Sprint SERO, stock 6.5 ROM. I recall WModem from my 6700 and Mogul days and this program does the trick, but is actually more convenient since no programs need to be loaded on the computer, and you don't need to "dial out" from the computer either. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=115051 It does require a few regedits but no big deal. Let me know if you have questions. |

Re: Why is everyone so against the WModem concept for TP2?
sl8763,
Thanks for reply, but I am not sure if you completely read or understood my (long) msg: I actually NEED the dial-up network setup, like the old way because I need the non NAT public IP. ICS does not get me thr my wrkplace VPN! Yes, I do know ICS is easier but that's not giving you the benefit of a non NAT public ip. I feel like I need to provide an explanation of non NAT public IP!? Hope I am not harsh sounding toward anyone but once again I will repeat: Anything related to tethering with ICS won't help what I need! Thny Last edited by wildpig; 05-24-2010 at 11:10 AM. |

Re: Why is everyone so against the WModem concept for TP2?
well look man.. this is your 3rd thread about this at least...
if YOUR not willing to flash to 6.1 and give it a shot, why are we still trying to help you... we came up with, its probably not supported in 6.5/2.5.. end of story... if YOUR not willing to do some investigating yourself, then i guess you really dont want it to work all that bad... weve tried.. but none of us seem willing to do a 30 step process for an outdated app none of us use.. and quit talking about speed and advantages too please... it has one advantage, the thing you need it for.. you dont know anything about speed, latency, ics, etc since you havent used any of the other apps available to test with... Ive personally tried helping you for almost 24hrs now.. im far from the only helpful person here, but give it a rest already please.. like i said.. YOU HAVE TO BE WILLING TO TRY SOME THINGS.. not really fair of you to critize/down the methods WE use, when were all tethering just fine and YOUR not... YOU want US to do YOUR work for YOU.. assume some responsibility for the app you claim to sooooo desperately wanna use.. **edit** 1) if you knew how to back up your device, a hard reset/flash wouldnt even be an issue 2) doesnt the benefits of flashing to 6.1 and getting your app to work, out weight the benefits of NOT flashing and NOT having your app work?? - itll take 30min to be up and running again.. hell youve spent 24hrs already looking for a solution... whats 30min-1hr to go try something out...
