Re: Best Navigation Software for TP2?

Garmin Mobile XT has worked well for me for the last couple of years. I have it installed on a 16gb card now so storage isn't an issue. I only wish I could update the maps.

Without that it would just be a 3D Map that is not really following you, if I am not mistaken.
Sprint nav, Gmap, binq all have a common Achille's heel: They all require you to have active datalink for map downloading in realtime.

TP, Titan have GPS which can function in both standalone mode (you can turn the phone connection and datalink off and gps still works, just take longer to acquire sats and possibly not as accurate) as well as the usual assisted mode

Which is why it's good to have nav prog w/ dataset on yr phone like igo or garmin

I agree with you 100% Another good reason is if you ever travel to a place where you would actually pay for data roaming. I was in Poland last week and it would have cost me around .01 kb which sounds inexpensive until you figure 1mb would cost you $10.24 It doesn't take long to download several mb of data while using navigation software requiring a data connection.

Right on! This is one reasons why I don't want to upgr to EVo,beside that it's not a world phone. There is no Igo or Garmin for Android yet. iphone does trumph Android on this one 'cause there is igo for iphone. Though I expect same for Android soon.

I know we are all into cloud computing but there is definitely something to be said about having the'data on yr hand and not have to rely on the cloud.

Re: Best Navigation Software for TP2?

Tp2 has a GPS chip‚ therfor it is a stand alone Nav system and works w/o carrier's service. No data or towers required.

Re: Best Navigation Software for TP2?

I'll cast another vote for iGuidance by iNav. Great program and I have been using it for years. I also think they have worldwide maps available and sinc eit is a standalone program, no data/network connection is required, just your onboard gps.
In addition to that, you can also use an external bluetooth gps "puck" - I use the hollux and it works great.

Re: Best Navigation Software for TP2?

It's a pity that such basic knowledge regarding gps is not common among a lot of people out there who will get duped into thinking all gps in phones are all the same.

I think it's these things which require consumer naiveness which allows certain companies to sell products which doesn't have multitask and cut&paste.

Need I say more?

yea, I got it during that sale too but I don't even bother installing it anymore.

The maps in that piece of garbage are at least 10 years out of date (that's probably why it was so cheap), I can't believe they still sell that POS.

It does have a super nice interface, but the maps make it totally useless IMHO.

GarminXT is awesome IMHO.
