Wasn't trying to force the tp2 to gsm just wondering if I could take the SIM and use it on a gsm only phone.

I know that most phones aren't GSM/CDMA i was mainly referring to "Sprint" since I have their service. If the EVO is not a GSM/CDMA phone why does it come with a SIM card?(best of my knowledge) and on Sprint like the TP2 which is GSM/CDMA? I know that switching either from CDMA to GSM or GSM to CDMA would be very expensive. That is why TMobile is having a hard time. Either buy out Sprint or Sprint buy out TMobile. But in my opinion GSM might be the standard in the future. Eventually CDMA phones will be phased out. I think that worldwide the census is more GSM than CDMA. So how can Sprint identify their phones overseas without CDMA capabilities... GSM? What i was trying to get at is if you are using an unlocked GSM phone with no way of using CDMA would you be able to use it with Sprint SIM card? How would the SIM card determine where it is, overseas? Cant check CDMA because of no capabilities on a GSM only phone, would identify itself as being overseas ...GSM...right?

You also said that the TP2 would still be activated on the Sprint account? Would that be the phone or phone number? How would you it determine that if you go overseas? Does the TP2 "deactivate itself" and activates the SIM card? or is it just the number that gets transferred to SIM?

So really the ESN doesnt really matter on a GSM network? Because the GSM network doesnt have the ability to read CDMA? So this answers my question about having a GSM only phone with a Sprint SIM card, IF and only if the answer is yes?

i think your extremly confused. only a smalll handful of sprint phones come with a sim card. really the only 2 i know of are the tp2 an a few blackberry phones. ive never heard that the evo would come with a sim card. it will be dual band, but thats evdo/1xrtt and wimax. im acually sure it wont be a world phone with a sim card slot. so asking if you can put a sim card in in is a moot point. i think what your asking is "can you put your tp2 sim card i an evo (or any other phone) and will it work on sprint?" the answer is no. that sim card is for sprint international use. i dont think sprint will make another phone with a sim card slot either. if you sim unlock the tp2 and put an att, tmobile, or pre pay sim in it, it will work i the usa. but only for making anr recieving phone calls. i dont think any data will work. i.e; no internet, not email, no weather.

Nope, just think of it this way. If you have an FM radio and it loses signal, it doesn't switch to AM signal...they are different frequencies. FOR AM/FM radios, you can flip the switch and make it AM...but never will the radio be able to chose between the signals itself.

Here to get matter straight.


TP2 simcard is not active in the device unless you call and international roaming for when your out of the country.

TP2 can be sim unlocked via a hack which allows it to use other carrier branded sim cards but no 3g data

TP2 sim card is useless in any GSM device unless out of the US and still then it is locked to the device.

So the jist of it SPRINT does not actually use SIM cards for service but has them in the device to be used out of the US and not to be used domestically.

Did you get your questions answered on this or are you still confused about why you cannot put a SIM in the Evo and cannot use it on SERO?
