Re: Using the Phone as the primary internet source

I would add another cheer for WMWifiRouter.
It definately does the trick for me.
Sometimes the connection goes wonky though.
But at least i can watch Netflix and Hulu on it without
any problems. Just keep your phone plugged in and enjoy!

Ohh, Paying 20$ for that program is a good investment too!

Why not just use the free HTC WIFI Router?

Re: Using the Phone as the primary internet source

Why not just use a USB cable to plug it into the desktop and then use Internet Connection Sharing to share the connection with the laptop or whatever else? I would rather not have my phone trying to pump out wireless throughout the entire house frying itself in the process when I could have it tethered to my desktop and have my desktop sharing the connection with a router or something like that which does all of the heavy lifting.

first i use between 15 and 40gbs a month in data usuage....i torrent at 150-200 kbs on my desktop.. about 150-175 on my lappy at the same time(both assuming, theres alot of seeders)... and i surf the whole time im doing it and burn dvds and cds(not that either of those affect my data lol)

a few days ago, i asked for the Xbox 360 mod... i ran netflix off xbox360, browed with my laptop, torrent dowloaded Edge of Darkness(new mel gibson movie), and burned a ROM all at the same time... didnt lag, stutter, hiccup one time.. the movie took an hr to download, the ROM 20minutes.. and netflix never even coughed at it

sure if you have a POS comp, youll have issues.. My desktop has a whopping 14gb harddrive, and only 512MB of RAM-yes its really old.. and i can still torrent with it at 150-200 AND surf just fine..

i can run atleast 3 things off my device and not see any lag in my speeds... are my speeds optimal, not really... do you notice lag, not at all... is it free, of course it is...

your going to spend 30 a month for 24 months.. thats $720...
im going to spend $0 a month for 24 months... thats $0

just saying, for free... you cant argue

you just need decent cell service is all.. your turning your device into the hotspot to tether everything with... turn it on, guarentee you have full bars.. kinda hard not to when the wifi device, your phone, is only like 10 ft away at the most from what your connecting to

i can already see where this is going...
video or it didnt happen. id say use one of your many touch pros you claim to have to shoot video of you torrenting on 2 computers and surfing the web at a comfortable speed and streaming netflix (all using only your phones internet connection) with no lag. im sure you wont be able to...
also, if your torrenting, where are you keeping everything? it couldnt be on you 14 gig hdd. that thing would be full in 2 days over here.
back in my vogue days i used alot of wifirouter, that thing would get so hot in an hour, you couldnt even touch it. these phones wernt meant to braodcast wifi constanly. itlll burn out...
also, i like your new avatar.

The phone does not heat up from wifi alone..what causes the heat up is the battery when you do wifi + charge(or charging and large amount of energy drain at same time)..so its a limitation of the lithium battery.

That said the TP2 has improved management of the heat and temporarily stops charging to help mitigate that issue..and when it gets 100% humid + 90-100 degrees I just place it on a metal surface/point a fan at it.

Either way I do 18 hours on my cellphone tethering easily.
