yeah, those are the ones i fly around on the interstate because they are eating and texting while driving 40mph in the left hand lane and get all suprised when you flip them the bird and ride the horn because traffic is backed up behind them.

Re: Why do people like using Swype? It seems more complicated than useful.

wow - lol i love swype - its a savior lol but thats assuming you're using it with a non-manila-2.5-messaging-client interface with the lag (stock 6.5 doesnt have this issue). i dont use my physical unless i'm typing emails. also not sure why you would use a stylus versus fingers ... i type fast on it using the regular keyboard with thumbs ... same as on an iphone. but for swype, i can go fast - probably not as fast as if i really trieddd to type fast on the regular keyboard, but then again why put so much effort into typing fast and i can use one hand with swype. when you use swype, you don't have to select words each time it pops up or press the space bar, just keep typing until you are done. once you are done, double click any wrong selection or re-type manually the word and it will store it in the database for next time.

And some day you may be able to drive and text again. I will pray for you at the local bar, as I borrow my buddies car to get home. Who the hell cares that I no longer have a license, and if I get stopped again it will be my 6th time. I can multitask with the best of them!!

Actually I don't drink, I found it interferes with my handling of my motorcycle. I am also guilty of texting while driving my truck. Here in Illinois it is illegal to text and drive. And for those who jump on the band wagon and say that law is wrong, they and most states have a back up law to cover their butts. It's called "Distractive Driving Law" simply put, it means it is against the law to drive while being distracted by something else. Oh maybe I should mention the above senerio is, or I guess I should say was a friend of mine. he ran a red light, and a semi plowed right into him. Funny thing was he was sober at the time, he had his wife and kids in the car, my car, and he never drinks and drives when they are with him. But he was texting his friends to meet up later that night. All 5 of them are now buried and long gone. Do I support your decision to text and drive, yep I do!! (Oh BTW police around here have to be trained to drive and use the laptop. They spend hours upon hours to make sure that there is no problems, or they just don't become cops.)

"now back to our regularly scheduled banter about Swype being good or bad." It makes my texting easier, driving, walking or just plain sitting down!! And to make it clear, 99.9% I send a text is while waiting for one of the millions of red lights to turn green!!!
Argue all you want, doesn't stop me from texting while driving. I've been doing it ever since I can remember having my first cell phone with txting capabilities and a license, and i'm not going to stop now, just because other people can't handle it. I'm a very good driver, and can handle it. And as far as your defense of the cops, you should check around a little bit more. There have been several "incidences" where police have gotten into accidents when using their computer, texting, or talking on their cell phones.

I'm sure that they practice the scenario where they're typing on their computer and someone loses control of their breaks and the cop car slams into them because the cop was looking at his computer screen instead of the road.

Or the scenario where the cop is typing on their computer and following someone close enough to read the plates and the person in front of them slams on their breaks because a pedestrian decided to walk out in front of that car, causing the cop to slam into the car he was tailing because he was looking at his computer.

Or the scenario where the cop is typing on his computer and a little kid runs out in the middle of a street chasing a ball at the exact same time the cop doesn't have his eyes on the road.

(/end sarcasm)

That being said, when I text and drive, I do it under a few conditions. A) While stopped. B) When no other traffic is around. C) Only on long stretch of straight road with no stop signs. D) Non-residential areas. E) Only during the day.

Get my drift? Like I said, I know my limitations. I know that there are times where there are other factors that could lead to a dangerous situation, and I simply don't text at that time.

So, I will continue to text and drive, and do it safely as I have done year after year after year, thousands of texts while driving each year, safely.

Re: Why do people like using Swype? It seems more complicated than useful.

I love Swype, but I personally feel you have to use the right ROM.... hence MR.X 2.5...the manila in CFC compressed making the rom VERY fast. I use the latest Swype on a daily basis and will never stop using it. The latest Swype has a more finger friendly board so my fat ass finger's don't hit the wrong key's like when I am using the stock on screen board, plus it is great to show off... If you have the stylus out in the first place Swype is alot faster... take some time with it and make sure you have the most recent release!!

don't know about your cop's training, but they actually teach them driving here in san antonio, and they spend a lot more hours in training than a normal driver. Not saying it prevents all accidents, but you can't tell me that you can watch the road and your cellphone screen at the same time.

You can't tell me they can watch the road with their eyes fixed on a computer screen either. I don't care how much "training" they have. It's distracted driving, just like the rest of us who do whatever, text, read, look to the passenger to talk to them, look for their cup of coffee, look for something in the glove box, look at the radio to change it. It's the same thing.

You are ridiculous, so there hasn't been 1 time where you were texting and looked up and were surprised by something, too bad you are in the same state as me.
Texting and driving is just as bad drinking and driving, just like waving a loaded gun around at people.

No matter what excuses or conditions you come up with the fact is that it is dangerous, I do it very rarely but at least I'm not delusional about it being safe, happy crashes just don't crash into me while texting or my 45 may accidentally discharge. LOL

Well said Primenall but you're wasting your breath.

People like this have to cause an accident killing a family of five & then getiing sued for $10,000,000 before they realize that they are no safer texting & driving than any other impaired driver is (although they are 100% convinced they can do this safely even though nobody else can)
