ok, I am going to also give my 2 cents,

I had the same problem with many contacts and texts when I upgraded to sprint 6.5 rom.

All I did is to switch from threated to Classic and the viola, no more lag.

I believe is that in the treaded mode, all the texts form the same person load when u view a message and when they are thousands, it bogs down the phone.

I switched back to threated just to verify and surely enough the problem came back on.
Now I am on classic messages at all times (you loose the coolness factor with the treaded messages thought).

hope it works

Pretty sure you hit the nail on the head. I never bother deleting txt messages and was getting the same problem, every time i'd close an mms it'd freeze up the phone and i'd have to do a soft reset. I'm not with sprint either, T-Mo TP2 running Energy Rom Phoenix.. after i deleted the couple thousand txt messages and mms messages.. lag's gone, no more freezing.

I was having this same issue with my Sprint TP2 freezing for 1 to 2 minutes after viewing or sending text messages. All I did was create a folder called "hold sms/mms" and then moved all of the messages from my SMS/MMS inbox that were over 1K in size to it. These were mainly my received MMS messages that had pictures attached. After I did the move, the delay disappeared. I did NOT have to switch to classic view or delete any sms/mms messages at all! :tshirt: The key is don't keep large messages in your sms/mms inbox.

I've had the same issue using the stock sprint rom for WM6.5 and then switched to the sprint lover's rom. It was working smoothly for about two weeks and then it started freezing all over again.

Now, for the past few weeks I have had the same issues that I had with the stock rom ie. phone freezing, shadow text message, phone freezing after sending sms on windows text app and HTC apps such as contacts and text being very slow and just general speed of the device has slowed tremendously.

I thought about just hard reseting my device but I dont wanna keep doing that if the problem is still gonna persists. Quite honestly I wanna throw my phone up against a wall...Im so done with Windows phones after this summer. I think imma switch to droid or an iPhone.

Can anyone offer any advice? Thanks

I have this same problem on stock VZ 6.5 ROM. The solution is to deleted messages.

Sucks, because one of the things I liked about Windows Mobile Smartphones is the ability to store a lot of stuff. What's funny is on my old Cingular 3125, I had thousands of messages and that didnt phase that little phone.

Now this "powerful" Touch Pro 2 cant handle a few hundred

it's not the phone, it's the way that sense has to cache them for viewing. if you were to turn sense off, you could probably have your 3k messages, i know I sometimes have 300-400 emails on my phone without problem.

Re: Sprint TP2 6.5 OEM Freezes when Exiting SMS/MMS

I want to revive this thread, because I keep having this issue, and it's killing me. It makes me want to sling the phone across the room. I want to organize what I've read on here so far, in hopes of finding a solution. This is my biggest problem with my phone, and it's about to drive me crazy.

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:

In the Windows Mobile text app (not Sense), when exiting a text thread, the phone occasionally becomes completely unresponsive for anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes. While the display returns to the list of text threads, the top menu with the drop down selectors for current folder glitches and shows whatever was in that area of screen from the text thread.

Under "normal" circumstances, this same unresponsiveness and graphical glitching occurs, however it lasts for only a fraction of a second.

This problem is generally experienced in WM 6.5 or 6.5.x versions, but not in WM 6.1. (If anyone has seen this in 6.1, please tell me in a reply.)

HYPOTHESES FOR CAUSE

HYPOTHESIS #1: Text App Parses Contacts
Some posters have guessed that the text app has to parse through the contacts each time you close a text thread in order to update the name on it, so if you have a lot of contacts, or very large contact images, it can cause the unresponsiveness.

HYPOTHESIS #2: MMS / Arcsoft
I have this problem regardless of whether or not Arcsoft has been installed. I have also seen this problem even with there are only texts, and no MMS messages.

HYPOTHESIS #3: Sense / Sense Messaging
Some people have thought that perhaps sense parses through the text threads to make the Sense Messaging work properly, but I haven't seen any improvement in the problem by disabling sense. However, this is still on ROMs with Sense cooked in. I can't confirm whether or not this problem will occur on a Titanium-only ROM.

HYPOTHESIS #4: Restoring Texts
Some users have suggest that this problem only occurs when using software such as MyPhone, SPB Backup, or PIMBackup to restore texts. However, other users and myself have reported this problem can occur even on a fresh install with no texts being restored.

PROPOSED SOLUTIONS

SOLUTION #1
: Disable Sense
This has be confirmed not to work in many circumstances. I just tested this on my phone, and the unresponsiveness persists.

SOLUTION #2: Move/Delete Texts
Moving the texts out of the inbox, either to trash or to another folder, will USUALLY but NOT ALWAYS stop the delays for new text threads that are created. However the problem will inevitably return.

SOLUTION #3: Reduce Size of Contact Images
I actually don't know of an easy way to do this, so I can't try it and report back. If anyone knows how to inspect the size of my contact images, I'll give this a go and come back. I'll try removing ALL my contact images later and update this post.

What I can confirm is that the unresponsiveness will occur regardless of whether or not you have Sense linked to facebook profile images.

UPDATE: Remove all my contact images had no effect. Exiting the threads still causes unresponsiveness.

SOLUTION #4: Apply Tweaks with XTHack or Similar
This had no effect on the problem in my testing.

I will update this post with any new information anyone can provide, or anything my research uncovers.

Re: Sprint TP2 6.5 OEM Freezes when Exiting SMS/MMS

I have a thought. Does everyone that is having the problem have "Threaded text messaging" turned on? I'll bet win mo doesn't like to have to parse every message into thread like that. Remember, each message is encoded like an individual "email" win mo would have to open each one, parse the text, and then put it where i belongs in the thread. To me that would take a LONG time. I don't know, I could be missing the mark entirely. Just a though.

The only thing I could think of for a "fix" (if this IS the problem) is a caching of these threads as they are made. Then win mo wouldn't have to re-parse everything from scratch...
