Interesting article on Palm's imminent demise:
http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=14460 Some excerpts from the article: Kaufman Bros analyst Shaw Wu cut his rating on the shares to "sell" from "hold". "While we believe Palm has some value with its webOS …we are unsure of the company’s prospects as an ongoing concern," he said in a client note. This excerpt explains why this is relevant in this thread: Much like Windows Mobile, PalmOS stagnated for more than 3 years while the company developed and re-developed a next generation OS in secret, and of course launched without any backward compatibility and with a very small amount of applications. Much like Windows Phone 7, the OS was also lauded for its breakthrough user interface concepts and ability to mesh with cloud services. In the case of WebOS this has clearly not translated into sales. While Microsoft is of course not at all dependent on their mobile business, hopefully their Windows phone division will manage this feat better. Interesting stuff there. Microsoft better be careful here. They seem to be following down the exact same path Palm did. |

Because as much as I hate to admit it, the iPhone sells and M$ wants a piece of the pie, they figure that they can win back the loyal customers they lost over the past 3 years since the iPhone first came out if they go that same direction

I also hear they are remaking their java with Esmertec (forgot their new name)..so they will get efficient native java running too... So then last step to to enforce manufacturers to enable hardware acceleration... And Google will end up ruling the world..sigh...

Wirelessly posted (Sprint Touch Pro 2: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/420.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/1A542a Safari/419.3)
y'all need to quit tripping balls. The current WM platform is outdated. We all know this and admit it or not, all the tweaking and flashing we do is a bit masochistic. Sure, I enjoy trying to get something simple like MMS working on my TP2....but really we all wish our phones were smoother and not so damn glitchy. The current WM paradigm is decades old. There's only so much skinning you can do and HTC has done a great job with that. Microsoft is bringing us something ENTIRELY new. This is amazing and exciting. |
