Re: ESN Change
pretty much all smart phones are requiring data plans these days. the cell phone companies want to get paid same as everyone else. you might have to go with the smaller carriers (like cricket or pocket) to get what you want.

Re: Data Plan Required
Trust me there is absolutely NO way around the required data plan unless you happen to know an executive that can pull strings for you. As soon as the system sees a TP2 esn then it adds the data package on if you want it activated.

Re: Data Plan Required
u would be crazy not to have a data plan...and if u used data without the plan u would b lookn at outrageous bills... Having a TP2 without data is like flinstoning a porsche. why have amazing capabilities and not use them. say what?!

Re: Data Plan Required
I would like someone to please explain these features for me, as I am a software engineer and don't see a single feature that 'requires' a data plan or that isn't reprogrammable to work exclusively with wifi. Features are all software. In the phone, there is not a damn thing in the hardware that requires a data plan, and that's what pisses me off.

just like less than 10 years ago...same thing happened with text messaging. as long as you added text messaging to your plan, you can text anyone anywhere in the galaxy and it was still part of your messaging bucket. but the carriers got smart and figured out that there were a big percentage that text internationally. so they started charging for international text outside of your messaging plan. and when they figured out that people want to connect to the internet using their smartphones, instead of letting us upgrade/buy a smartphone/ppc and leaving it up to us to get the option of having data plan with it, the light bulb once again came on. and the rest as we say is history!

Re: Data Plan Required
that is NOT actually true... I had a data plan on my account, and the system dropped it off my plan. I ended up with $75.00 in data overage....which was corrected. I don't see the point in the phone without a data plan...but the phone WILL activate without one.
