Windows Phone 7 on Touch Pro 2?

I don't know if this is the right place to ask this... (sorry if it isn't the right place)

I don't know if the hardware requirements are known yet, but does anyone know if we'll be able to upgrade our Touch Pro 2's to Windows Phone 7?

We will not. Sprint will only get 6.5 whenever they plan on releasing it, might even be after Wm7 comes out...lol But only the Hd2 will get 7.

no update for tp2 to wp7, sorry thats just the way it is.

I don't even think hd2 will get an official update anymore, all wp7's seem to be using the 3 button design, and the hd2 still has 4 buttons, like the zune wp7 is suppose to only use 3 buttons. of course someone will be able to rip it and probably load it being the hardware supports it, but i doubt htc and windows will give it an official update, but of course i don't work for htc or windows so only time will tell.

I don't think the tp2 has the processor 'required' and is not capacitive touch, but other than that, you can bet that here @ ppcgeeks there will be a w7p port.

i dont think it has the capability to run WM7... However the HD2 runs Wm6.5 and you can actually run 7 as well.. im not sure based on this if itll be the same case..

Let me break this down.

The HD2 is a one of a kind device, there is not other device like it, nor will there ever be. It is the only winmo6.x device that will ever get a WP7 port IMO, the only other highly doubtful but technically maybe possible is the Toshiba TG01. Let's look at the main reasons why:

WP7 was designed and has as a basic requirement at least a 1ghz snapdragon processor, or 1ghz hummingbird. The 528mhz qualcomm msm chip in the Pro2 would never be able to handle the OS, and attempting to write a driver to make them fit would be a task in utter futility. The TP2 also only has 288mb RAM, which technically meets the minimum requirement of 276MB ram (afaik) but I think it would struggle very much to run it since there is no OEM WP7 device with less than 512 MB RAM. The HD2 actually does have the 1ghz snapdragon, and 576MB RAM.

WP7 is also designed for a capacitive screen, as is Android. The HD2 is the only winmo phone that has or will ever have a capacitive screen.

These are the main reasons for a port never coming to the Pro2, the processor is a complete deal-breaker and in my opinion HTC did a royal screw job by releasing the Pro2 with such a weak processor no better than its predecessor.

It will never happen for any phone not named the HD2, in the future a port may work for an Android shipped phone, but that's not happening any time soon.

=( I just got my TP2 and I've been really happy with it... but todays news just makes WM6.5 on my TP2 seem so obsolete... If there's a Windows Phone 7 port, I hope it runs smoothly...

1 - I doubt it would run smoothly simply due to the unfortunate reality that the TP2 is already rather dated by tech standards.

2 - WinMo 7 really seems like MS destroying one of the huge reasons everyone likes WinMo - customization and freedom in general. As far as I'm concerned - keep it.

Re: Windows Phone 7 on Touch Pro 2?

Shit, I just convinced a few people to buy TP2's because I thought the TP2 would be able to support WM7.

Windows 6.5 is still the best option for the next 10 months.
