hah, so I'm not the only one....

Re: Flaws in the Touch Pro 2 design--in my opinion

Lack of a D-Pad took me maybe a month to get over. Most of the other stuff is doable now.
You want a real design flaw, the person who put the soft reset button under the battery cover should be shot.

That and no flash (well thats more of a hardware flaw than physical)

I personally prefer the actual Windows Mobile UI.
I use Titanium, I prefer WM contacts, and I prefer WM text messaging.
Manila just seems slow and laggy to me.

Re: Flaws in the Touch Pro 2 design--in my opinion

Well, thanks to all of you who replied. Even the few of you who basically said I was an idiot.

The thing is, I learned the Mogul and the TP1 like the back of my hand out the box. I probably looked up 3 things in the manual for both phones total in the 2 years I had them, and only used PPC geeks to learn how to mod my phone, not how to un-dummy myself. But the TP2 just isn't clicking as fast. I've looked in the manual and I've actually done quite a bit of scouring reg edits and different cabs and programs I could install on my phone--I just haven't found the answers to the things I enumerated above. So thanks all of you who said "here it is."

As I said earlier, I love the TP2. I could enumerate more things I like about it than dislike, but I just started this thread to vent about things that the two previous phones had set as precedent that I am having trouble with.

Re: Flaws in the Touch Pro 2 design--in my opinion

I come from prior to the 6600! Which I loved by the way. With each device, it was always a new learning experience, which after a while, you wonder why you miss the old one!
I'd love to sit with HTC, and bettery yet, Microsoft and clue them in as to what would be preferable to every user. But, I know I don't have a rat's chance in hell of that ever happening.
So, you get used to the quirks that they think work.

You know what? I checked my settings and that fixed it. That was a no brainer--except the day before my TP2 arrived, I watched an unboxing on YouTube by PocketNow and they said the feature wasn't included. So when I got my phone I tried it, it didn't work, and I left it at that. I guess I shouldn't have assumed their review of their TP2 would apply 100% to Sprint's version.

Hit "exit" when leaving opera if you want it to close out. Run memmaid or sktools to keep your memory up to snuff.
Works for me.
Didn't take long because I'm a fast typist. Also, "exit" works, I guess I was refering to the X in the corner. I always forget Exit is there because I'm so used to hitting the X for other stuff. I guess I was just splitting hairs!

press and hold ur finger on the screen, select "make selection" drag ur nail highlighting the text. press n hold the highlighted portion and select copy. and press n hold in the input box and hit paste. simple.

BTW just call this thread "tell me how 2 do all this stuff i could do on my TP1" cuz thaz what u want anyway. lol.
there are fixes for all ur quirks. (besides the lack of camera flash)
First, thanks for the help. Second, that's not what you did on the TP1. You just click and highlight it. Third, doesn't work. When I press and hold on the text message screen, the only options I get are "Select All" and "Undo." If I press and hold underneath the text message, I get "Send" "Save to Drafts" "Cancel Message" and "Select All." Hence why I proceeded to address the issue in my first post. Third, I pretty much admitted there are probably fixes for all my quirks, I just didn't see the ones I needed though my searching. But I did find some really cool stuff--just not stuff I need right now.

What settings are you talking about? If you're talking about the "Settings" tab in TF3D, it's not there. If you're talking about "All Settings", there's nothing that says SMS. If you're talking about "Menu" soft key in in the "Messages" Tab, there is only New Reply Forward and Delete. If you're talking about "All Messages --> Menu --> Tools --> Options" it's neither under the "Message" tab or "SMS/MMS" settings... the only option is "Always send a callback number." Sorry, I've done all this before even before thinking about typing up my complaint and not seeing anything close to what you said.

So, the I clearly missed the boat on voice command and I mispoke when I mentioned Opera... but Malibu and Iknight8 I just ain't seeing what you're seeing.

Re: Flaws in the Touch Pro 2 design--in my opinion

i'd have to disagree with the thread name. i interpret "design flaws" as hardware issues. most of what you stated is software quirks you don't like and most can be fixed. it is understandable that you'd like to not have to fix them in the first place though. one thing i love about these phones is being able to customize them endlessly.

i will completely agree with you on the hardware flaws, as in no flash, lack of a physical control key and as someone else mentioned the soft reset button. personally i hate resistive screens, they seem so cheap feeling to me, so had this phone been capacitive, well i'd be in tp2 heaven.

also, i have ditched htc software for the most part. running titanium and disabled as much htc stuff as possible (via ssk). i now have a very functional, fast and reliable phone...

with some time and dedication you make winmo do pretty much whatever you want. hell as of lately, even run android, haha.

EDIT:

for threading. go to all settings\system\text messaging. there should only be one option which is threaded or classic. hope that helps. this is on wm6.5, don't know if that matters...

Re: Flaws in the Touch Pro 2 design--in my opinion

I apologize as I haven't read the entire thread (i've been reading about relativity all day so I'm kinda over reading, first post was enough lol) but i just have to say...you haven't explored your phone enough. At least 60% of your issues are indeed stock features as far as i can tell, if not stock then EASILY tweaked to your hearts content. I'm not tryin to knock ya, i'm just saying play around man, i'm sure you'll get plenty of suggestions in here if you haven't already.
