So I assume if/when your tp2 fails your not gonna bring it to the carrier repair place or use assurion since you voided that already?
I thought that was what TEP insurance was for. Whether you intentionally drop it in a puddle, flush it down the toilet or fall off a boat, or flash it to a wrong radio. You are covered if you broke it on purpose, what do you gain by getting another device that just came out and pay $100? IMO nothing, you don't gain anything you actually lose money plus you have to send the broken phone back. Just not losing as much as going out and buying a new device. Just my 2cents....

In reality, TEP is actually 2 parts. The first is basically an extension of the manufacturer's warranty where they will fix or replace the phone for defects or malfunctions in the hardware and do so at no cost. A lot of times, if the phone is bricked while updating software or firmware, it falls under this category - from what I understand they have to wipe the ROM, SPL, etc and load fresh when this happens so they won't really know that the you had hSPL'd it or loaded a custom ROM. Where it voids the warranty is mostly for software support - it's kinda like a computer company. If you load a custom OS on a computer from, say, Dell, they'll still replace defective hardware, they just won't support the OS.

The other part of TEP is for accidental damage... just like your car insurance isn't likely going to cover your car if you purposely drive it into a wall or someone's pool, TEP isn't going to cover you if you intentionally slam your phone on the ground or intentionally drop it in the toilet. Granted, with a mobile device it's a little harder to prove that the damage was intentional but what do they care, you've given them $100 which likely more than covers the cost of most repairs...

I know, I was jus being sarcastic to the poster I qouted....

I luv when some1 double standards themselves, happens alot here....LOL
The moral police also happens alot here....

In some ways what op did was fraud but the carriers, phone manufactures, and assurion aren't perfect either.....

If he decided to bring it in knowing it was his fault so be it, if the carrier decided to give him new/refurb TP2 thats was the carriers rep call....

OP posted this as informative post for purposes due to the highly frequent brick posts, he wasn't boasting that he got a new phone due to the bricking....
Others just made it their focal point for whatever reasoning...

Supdawg accused fraud and stated he wouldn't act stupid and try to get a replacement...

If something happened to Supdawgs phone whether or not it was his fault, while Supdawg is trying to get his related or unrelated problem resolved at the carrier service center or thru Assurion more than likely he isn't going to say he unlocked the phone and flashed other roms ....
If he did it would most likely would be a bad thing to say....

If Supdawg did the carrier/assurion would laugh n most likely tell him he is SOL since to their standards he voided the warranty....
So if Supdawg doesnt mention he voided his warranty, then that would be the same fraud he accused OP of doing....

Fraud isn't a good thing by any means but it's nobody's job here to accuse or classify as such.... atleast IMO
