I think where the problem you are going to run into is that gv is just a call router, so if someone sends you an sms to gv it routes it to your cell number, just as voice calls are forwarded, if you got rid of your carrier sms, gv would have no way of knowing how to get the sms to you, and sms for the most part, uses the carrier voice network, on the other hand, mms uses the data/internet connection, so if gv would get mms figured out then you could bypass your carrier, mms is basically an email sent to your phone
