Looking at your list of requirements, you are closer to the functionality of the iPhone than perhaps you think. The only missing peice is the ability to sync to iTunes. Perhaps you should convert your iTunes library to MP3's if you have not already done so. If you have, you can simply sync the MP3's to your phone with activesync.

Clearly you would miss out on the cool interface that the iPhone offers and the iPhone apps, but you could, with some minor set-up effort, replicate the functionality you are looking for.

It seems very unlikely that you will ever see an iPhone ROM on our TP2 or any other non-apple device. It is a bit like asking my toaster to make coffee. The best you could hope for would be an emulator that might runs parts of the iPhone software. However even that seems unlikely as there is no legal commercial market for it.

I suggest you focus on making your TP2 do what you want rather than porting the iPhone to new hardware.

Wirelessly posted (Sprint T7380: Opera/9.7 (WindowsMobile; PPC; Opera Mobi/35541; U; en; Presto/2.1.1))

WCDMA iPhone....lol. WCDMA = UMTS a.k.a. GSM 3G. Yes, CDMA and WCDMA are the same carrier technology, the latter's "W" standing for "Wideband," using a wider channel. The only problem is that both use very different modulations as well as general protocol implementation.

Although you may have some luck getting one from South Korea or China, as both have cdma2000 networks.

As for the port to the iPhone OS, it's not ever going to happen unless you can steal the source from Apple. You'd have a better chance of porting it to a Nokia N900.

No amount of money past the amount of buying Apple will change that.

Re: iPhone ROM Development $1000

Just get an iPod Touch and run the HTC wifi router on your TP2 - best of all worlds. Yeah, you'd be lugging around two devices, but aren't many of us with WinMo phones doing that already?

Re: iPhone ROM Development $1000

I'm sorry, I can't understand why someone would buy a PPC & then try to turn it into an iPhone. I admit I've tried IphoneToday but if you want an iPhone rom bad enough to pay someone $1000 just get a freakin' iPhone.

Better yet, give me $1000 & I'll go buy you an iPhone.

for that price, you can use the no ETF fee loophole from Sprint, buy an iphone and pay 5 months in advance of service

Re: iPhone ROM Development $1000

It's actually not a bad idea to just take some of the iphones features, and would create a challenge for developers. I would just want the animations, and UI of the iphone, but keep the features of my winmo/tp2. The iphone is really designed for noobs. ( no disrespect iphone users!)
