Re: Do you bother hard reseting after Flash?
I've read on a couple of the ROM threads, by the Thread leaders (http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.p...64&postcount=5) that there is some residue left over after the flash that a hard reset cleans up. I see many posts by people who show themselves to be much more 'expert' than me, that recommend the hard reset after flashing. I take their word for it and hard reset after a flash.

I do however know a bit about phones as I am an old user of WinMo (winmo 2003) That being said, let me shed a little bit of light on this. 1) A Hard reset and clear storage are NOT the same thing. 2) Flashing OVERWRITES anything that is assigned to that area - THIS anology is flawed but should illustrate my point. Think of like a parking lot. The old cars take up slots 1- 42 arranged in a area of 7 * 7. The crusher comes (i.e. a new rom) but it takes up less space. So it overwrites everything, but only puts a new image in 1- 36 in a 6 * 6. So even though you erased the extra, nothing is overwriting it. And anyone who works with computers knows that if you format a HDD I can still retrive data off of it as long as you didn't overwrite with data. In fact, the more secure wipes overwrite it with junk "data". 3) Clear Storage then overwrites it again. In fact, it does a better job then flashing the rom. 4) Reflashing the rom on top of itself seems to help, but no real data has surfaced. 5) (speculation) reflashing stock helps the most because the stock rom is so HUGE and overwrites with data everywhere. |

which reminds me, "clear storage" will default all epst settings, requiring re-provisioning. thanks for explaining all that better than I was willing. |
