Re: Do you bother hard reseting after Flash?

We've had this discussion before & last time one of the most well know ROM builders on this site said exactly the same thing I'm saying.

Sure, it can't HURT to hard reset 12 times in a row & I've tried it once or twice out of curiousity (& never saw any difference at all & I load my systems to the maz with apps/programs etc) but I usually don't bother.

Always, and sometimes twice. HR>flash to stock first>HR>flash new rom>HR. But I'm a perfectionist. I do believe it can't hurt and could help. It seems when I don't do it this way I have had certain issues, but not sure if thats related to the HR flashing process. I will continue to do it this way. Doesn't take much extra time and I want the best chance for success.

I always HR after flashing. If the Chef says to HR and it obviously only adds about a minute to setting everything up, I don't see what harm it does, and I'd rather be safe than sorry.

IF the rom's have the same drivers and services, than it won't matter much.
also the wm6.5 kernel has a bit extra memory for such things and should be less prone to the issue.
the issue; drivers/ect.. get loaded into slots of memory. if they get loaded into certain slots they can survive a flash.

I'm not sure if this is an issue when flashing via bootloader or SDcard, but certainly can be when flashing via active sync since the phone is fully booted.

side note; to get a full flash from a carrier rom (rom/radio/prl-pri) you have to flash via activesync.

edit; just realized this was a tp2 thread, and it's entirely possible cmonex and the team or even htc fixed this on the bootloader for the TP2.

I think this post is an example of not hard-resetting after a flashing a updated rom.

I'm an IT Engineer. Flashing a ROM IS MORE than hard resetting a device! It wipes out the WHOLE THING! ROM AND RAM! You CAN'T Hard Reset any more than THAT! If that's your ritual, than go ahead. You may like to do stomach crunches while listening to Boston's "More Than a Feeling" while your phone is flashing. It has no effect on the phone whatsoever, but if THAT's your ritual, go ahead.

Some people like 5 O'Clock traffic too I guess so they can get caught up on their cursing perhaps.

My point is, flashing a ROM is BEYOND Hard Resetting! If you hard reset it 10 more times, it will have NO effect on the performance of the phone!

That's factual! The rest is superstition and ritual.

A voice of reason, I've been saying the same thing.......

well, half say yes, half say no, my other half dont, I do, she never has any problems.... So who knows,

I personaly right after it flashes, and reboots, I pull the battery and manually hard reset...... I dont wait for the 10 min. set up to press 1234 on clear storage........

I have seen it happen. when I used to be a kitchen and flash junky in the mogul days, I witnessed several times when drivers and control panels were left over from the previous rom.

really I could care less what people do, but really it comes down to how prepared you are. if you have a good backup/restore plan than who cares if you have to hard-reset if a problem does crop up. if you don't, then you best take the extra 4 minutes for an extra hard reset after flash and not have to worry/wonder.

edit; actually I suppose it could have been an issue with ppckitchen, as thats what I was using.

The only thing that was a real PITA lately was getting MMS to work right in a manila 2.5 ROM & NOBODY could get that working at the time.

When we finally realized what the fixes where (changing Arcsoft settings etc), you could have hard reset 100 times in a row & it wouldn't have changed anything.

~John

as i said, dont think hardreset would fix your problems.
