Re: HTC Touch HD 480x800 WVGA! Look out Touch Pro!
Yea, sorry. You're right. Still, that was not that spectacular, I would prefer to have seen Mini-SD instead of Micro, and also beefing up the RAM/ROM Capacity. This is the main thing:
The HTC Touch Pro, running on the same RAM, is very fast, and runs great. Chances are, that if they haven't adjusted the RAM any, it will not run as fast, since it has twice the pixels to handle. Now, I am sure they did allocate more RAM to serve as VRAM, but that is still taking away from the 140MB of RAM available to the user. So, maybe we don't need that much free memory, anyways, but I just had higher expectations, considering it is not that different than the Axim XV51; even that had dedicated video memory, and it was now what, three years ago that it was considered new? |

RAM - VRAM is used to process anything video. For laptops, they always have an actual video card, that either has dedicated memory for video related tasks, or, they have a card that can control and manage RAM and allocate it as VRAM. In mobile devices like PDAs, I think it is similar, if not strictly the latter, being that they always program into the drivers and firmware, that they set-aside a certain amount of RAM to use for VRAM. You do know that the device (Touch Pro) has specs stating that it comes with 288MB of RAM, right? Well, not all of this is even available to the user... You only can even see like ~200MB, and the other portion is allocated for Video RAM. For the HD, I assume that it is an increased amount of RAM, that is dedicated to the Video Board. I like to be corrected, but only if I say something wrong. To directly answer your question: "Does ur computer monitor use ram?" Nope; but to get the data to and from my motherboard and RAM, it needs to be processed and therefore the process does use some of my RAM. |

Re: HTC Touch HD 480x800 WVGA! Look out Touch Pro!
I will give U an example. Even ur system have 8gigs of ram. ANd U use a video card that share the system ram. It will not work a hardcore game. Because the graphics part will not consume all 8gigs of ur system RAM just to process the graphics. System will only allocate a certain amount of ram to the graphics part and when it consumes all of it, It will start to lag until it cannot handle anymore and it will crash.

I'm gonna just say, I believe that you make your own computers, but, I think I am more correct in this situation. I do think you know some, and may know some of what I don't, but none of this has anything to do with the HD, besides my original comments, so let's just act like adults, and let the mods clean this thread up. Shake on it? |
