Re: HTC Touch HD 480x800 WVGA! Look out Touch Pro!

In fact, it is more than the same Proc and all; it is the exact same chipset, and I think the exact same amount of RAM as the Touch Pro. It is the duplicate in specs, except adding in the larger screen, taking away the keyboard, and putting in the (very important) headphone jack. This is why I was so disappointed in this device... Another typical 6700-6800 upgrade. Only adds a few features, and leaves much to be desired. Heh, look at that estimated talk time:
Stand-by Up to 450 h
Talk time Up to 6 h 30 min

Re: HTC Touch HD 480x800 WVGA! Look out Touch Pro!

Yea, sorry. You're right. Still, that was not that spectacular, I would prefer to have seen Mini-SD instead of Micro, and also beefing up the RAM/ROM Capacity. This is the main thing:
The HTC Touch Pro, running on the same RAM, is very fast, and runs great. Chances are, that if they haven't adjusted the RAM any, it will not run as fast, since it has twice the pixels to handle. Now, I am sure they did allocate more RAM to serve as VRAM, but that is still taking away from the 140MB of RAM available to the user. So, maybe we don't need that much free memory, anyways, but I just had higher expectations, considering it is not that different than the Axim XV51; even that had dedicated video memory, and it was now what, three years ago that it was considered new?

What the RAM gotta do with the resolution? Does ur computer monitor use ram? In fact, The Touch HD has the fastest TF3D in any device according to reviews and XDA that is why it's being ported VGA devices.

No offense, but by that statement, you seem to be stating that you no little about video cards, or even some more day-to-day computer techniques.
RAM - VRAM is used to process anything video. For laptops, they always have an actual video card, that either has dedicated memory for video related tasks, or, they have a card that can control and manage RAM and allocate it as VRAM. In mobile devices like PDAs, I think it is similar, if not strictly the latter, being that they always program into the drivers and firmware, that they set-aside a certain amount of RAM to use for VRAM. You do know that the device (Touch Pro) has specs stating that it comes with 288MB of RAM, right? Well, not all of this is even available to the user... You only can even see like ~200MB, and the other portion is allocated for Video RAM. For the HD, I assume that it is an increased amount of RAM, that is dedicated to the Video Board.
I like to be corrected, but only if I say something wrong. To directly answer your question:
"Does ur computer monitor use ram?"
Nope; but to get the data to and from my motherboard and RAM, it needs to be processed and therefore the process does use some of my RAM.

Newer computer systems does not touch ur system ram. That is why the video cards havve dedicated RAM. Up to 1 gig just to run it's own graphics and resolution etc. On mobile phones, If the video chip does not have a dedicated ram, it shares it from the system ram with a particular amount. it will not go over that amount. Now, The RAM that the display is using is being taken care of by the video chip. So the rest of the RAM will be used for the system. SO take the display out, since the hardware is identical to the TP, It will run like a TP but with bigger display. I am a hardcore system builder, hardcore overclocker and a PC modder.

Re: HTC Touch HD 480x800 WVGA! Look out Touch Pro!

I will give U an example. Even ur system have 8gigs of ram. ANd U use a video card that share the system ram. It will not work a hardcore game. Because the graphics part will not consume all 8gigs of ur system RAM just to process the graphics. System will only allocate a certain amount of ram to the graphics part and when it consumes all of it, It will start to lag until it cannot handle anymore and it will crash.

Yes, you are correct, and I never said otherways. It is usually 384, or 256 that most standard dynamic video cards cap at. Unless it is a higher end Video Card, that can support dynamic allocation of memory, those are the typical highest limitations for video memory.
I'm gonna just say, I believe that you make your own computers, but, I think I am more correct in this situation. I do think you know some, and may know some of what I don't, but none of this has anything to do with the HD, besides my original comments, so let's just act like adults, and let the mods clean this thread up. Shake on it?
