Re: HTC Touch HD 480x800 WVGA! Look out Touch Pro!

man this pda looks like a combination of the touch vogue and the touch diamond, it looks flat with a wide screen. they should have skipped the diamond and went straight to this...

Wireless N will never be implemented.atleast at the moment. Why? Carriers is in the business of selling DATA Plans. In the future, where hotspots will be everywhere and U have wireless N, U might not get Data plans anymore. Maybe we won't be getting Voice plans too. Because we can use the hotspot with wireless N on skype. Bad for business for carriers. So do not wish for wireless N.

Abelincoln, How did U figure 720P on HD? Do u know that U need 1280x720 to run 720p? Believe it or not, Iphone can handle 1080P output. This has been discussed before but some of U are confused about it. Iphone can handle 1920x1080 to be outputed on an HD TV. Now U people will say that our phone can do that too. The point that U do not understand is U don't just resize the video to 1920x1080. If U do that, the quality is still the same. U have to decode the h.264 codec which is the same quality as Blueray Disc. No phone can handle that as of now. Prolly Tegra equipped phone. But according to their specs, output is only 720P. Well, Iphone is being compared to PSP most of the time because of it's ability to play videos and it's 3d engine.

Edit: 1080P resolution played on Iphone's 3.5 screen with no problem. Somebody just need to come up with the cable to be outputed on an HDTV.

SD card is never an upgrade. Sure u can have more storage but u are giving up a lot of things too. Speed and security of the data. Even small counterfeit chinese company can put microSD in their phones. How can this be an upgrade? LOL

overclocking is unstable. it causes a lot of heat too. So really, overclocking is not recomended. Even PC have that warning.

If U have a 1080P 32" HDTV. U sold it and bought the same 1080P HDTV but this time it's 42". U woulnd't call that an upgrade? If that's not an upgrade to U, HD is not an upgrade then.
I appreciate you taking the time to reply, and for typing such a though-out response.
First, let me address the SSD:
- I know it isn't SSD in the Diamond, I was just saying solid-state memory, basically. I wasn't certain that it wasn't still considered solid-state, so I wasn't going to just call it flash memory.
802.11 Draft N
- You're absolutely right, carriers would never release it, but even stand-alone devices don't have N, so that is not as good of an arguement. Although, it stands perfectly well against the Touch HD, I was merely talking in general about PDA's and technology.

I actually think you are not correct in your statement about SD cards:
- The Axim has both CF and SD, and I think this is an upgrade over having just a single drive. However, with most devices coming with GPS, I don't think a second drive is needed, however I do think that the move to smaller cards was not wise. I think having a mini-sd drive/reader takes up just as much space as a full-size reader. Ok, so maybe not technically, but I just think it was a marketing move.

Also, why the move towards micro, when the speed is in the CF and SD cards? I doubt you can get the same speed, as you can get with full-size cards.

The main advantage of having a reader BTW, is only having to have your music stored, on one card, and your pictures stored on one card. Having a limit is never an option, at least not for me. You mean you think having the 4GB storage is an upgrade to a 16GB storage??

Security is the main reason why removable storage is not a very good option. However lower cost makes it to the device. How many here are having problems with corrupt cards? U move the cards in and out, the data is beiing corrupt. Internal memory will always be faster because it's almost built in the board. In time, flash or SSD's will be incorporated in these devices. But not now because it's too expensive to put it there. That is why removable cards are placed to save cost and for the consumer to afford. It is cheaper to just put a removable card in a device. And when u go on the cheaper way, It is not an upgrade. ipod's have up to 160GB and it so expensive and it is only a PMP.

and yes, The manufacturer gave U an upgrade with 4gigs of internal memory than a microSD reader inside the phone for the same price. The manufacturer will not give u the 16 giger microsd. U have to buy it urself. Add that to the cost of the phone. card reader is only 5 bucks. I doubt it that 4gigs of flash memory is 5 bucks.
Manufacturer cannot give U 16 gigs of internal memory or higher. as of yet because of the price. we might not afford it. If we can't buy it, they can't make profit.

That's nice but the iPhone screen isn't even VGA so it's a total loss and waste. Also, the iPhone does not support video out, so it actually cannot display it on a TV until that is sorted out.

Iphone have TV out since the day it came out. Whatchu talking about?HAHAHA. even ipod video and ipod classic have TV out. i use it. if apple or somebody will release a iphone/Ipod to HDMI cable, That would be awesome. it will not be a waste. Why is not a VGA a total loss? HAHAHA. Iphone has 480x320 screen display.Accelerometer, multi touch etc.2 YEARS AGO! What do U have 2 years ago? Diamond has VGA but U cannot see it on a screen bigger than 2.8". LOL

I am a proud owner of a 1st gen Iphone. But I am a WM poweruser.

To all of you with comments or questions about the release of the Touch HD (I quoted several of u below), check out the reply I received directly from HTC when I inquired about the US release and possible carriers. It's great news to most of us.

"
Michelle, we thank you for your enthusiasm in our products and are more than happy to answer any questions pertaining to our phones. The HTC HD is expected to be released in the European market by the end of this year.We expect to have this phone out in the North American market shortly after. We have not set a price nor do we have any information on which carriers will host this phone. You can find more information at our press release link here: http://www.htc.com/www/press.aspx?id=65236.We apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused you and thank you for your patience.

I hope we have answered your question in detail. Feel free to contact us again if you have any further questions.

people would start their talks about it there, so it can be in one location.

R u kidding me? Sprint beats the hell out of Verizon. Come to VZW for a while & then u can c what it's like to finally get a device when it'scompletely obsolete. VZW is usually 1 year behind Sprint.

I started a thread titled HTC Touch HD - Join My Crusade!!! I would love it if
people would start their talks about it there, so it can be in one location.
That is a great news. But like HTC said, By the time it comes to the U.S., It would not be new anymore. I will not wait for that and I will believe it when it's here. treybeno started this thread long before U started urs. So we will end it here.
