Ok so it seems as if when I installed the other rom it seems to have overriden some important settings that deal with the internet. I could be wrong because I did pull this from the Debunking Multi Nai thread from the second write up. If that is the case then I would have to take it into the store to get it fixed. Which really sucks but I would love to get a second opinion from someone else who might of came across the same issue.

Hmm... so from reading this thread, when my Mogul comes in on Monday, the first thing I should do is grab up the Alltel ROM?
Should I let it flash, then reset it when it starts installing customizations so I don't lose Sprint-specific settings? |

I don't know if it fixed the RAM issue, but it is "snapper" according to someone on the #ppcgeeks chat channel yesterday

my findings are the opposite - the alltel OS was only modified by alltel where apparently necessary for a functioning device. its as close to stock WM as we have on the titan. the sprint rom has been highly screwed with and bogged down by spcs. |

My .02 on the Alltel WM6 OS
Alright, so I decided that if there was any possibility of using my well-loved and heavily missed Plantronics 665 BT headset again, then it was worth trying. After flashing to just the Alltel WM6 OS on my Sprint Mogul (which was a super easy process even for a newbie to PPCs, great job ImCokeMan) here are my findings, the good, the bad and the ugly. YMMV.
Good - Ram: After hard reset I was sitting at 25, a full 1 - 2mb higher than a hard reset with Sprint. Comparing exact same running programs, I am consistently 3 mb + more free ram at any given moment using the Alltel rom vs the Sprint one. Since I've been deciding on what my preferred software set will be with my Mogul, I've been watching my Ram, soft resets, use of Oxios, etc very very closely. There is a significant improvement with the Alltel rom. Speed: Visibly noticeable increase in speed. By my stopwatch, I would see a full second or more difference in loading PocketCM. Definitely as someone else described, "snappier". BT: Most important..... I can use my headset again! (sorta, see "ugly"). Callers have no complaints, and I am fully comprehensible. Lots of testing on this, and while it is still not the phenomenal audio quality I've seen with my 665 on other phones, it is perfectly useable. From day 1 of my Mogul, I have not been able to get through a single phone call with my BT. Every person complained within the first minute of conversation that the audio was choppy. Totally unusable. Not the case with the Alltel rom, and I've asked every single caller with some calls lasting less than 3 minutes, and others going over 45. Bad - Picsel Browser: Can't figure it out, but for some reason I cannot get it to allow a reflow of the page. Haven't looked into it heavily yet, but it is odd to say the least. Ugly - Stability: And now the downfall..... while my BT headset is functional and useable, it causes me to experience the exact same wake from standby issue that the early Telus WM6 folks were complaining about on pdaphonehome. If BT is disabled, no issues at all. When BT is enabled I'd say there is a 1 in 3 chance of the device not waking with the power button and needing a soft reset. This is the case immediately after a hard reset, so I know it is *not* a third party software issue. This is my deal breaker. I flashed for the BT headset ability, but if I have to set my phone to not go into standby whenever I want to use BT, it's not really any better than not using it at all with the heavy battery drain etc etc. So, at the moment I'm testing every temp solution and workaround I can come up with. Tomorrow I'll be testing against multiple headsets. I really don't want to give up my 665, so more than likely if I can't find an answer I'll be jumping back to WM5 and seeing how that runs. Anyways, thats my .02, hopefully it proves helpful to someone else planning on following the same path, - DogGuy |
