Re: Using a GPS with no internet
i got TomTom Navigator 6. It don't seem to be able to work with street numbers correctly. It leads you to he middle of the street but not up to the actual house number. This is a real problem for long roads. For that reason I was thinking of trying to update to TT7 but it looks to me that 7 is only for Europe, S America, etc. Not for the USA.
If you go here http://www.tomtom.com/products/category.php?ID=2&Lid=1 , you will see TT7 for mobie phones on sale. Good, but notice the drop down menu int he upper right of the page, this is the United Kingdom version of the site. If you select the United States version of the site you won't find TT7 anywhere, only TT6! You will find it here http://www.tomtom.com/products/category.php?ID=14&Lid=4 , under "Original Products". It seems to me like they have given up on it for our (WM) phones in the USA They do announce however, that they will have it on the IPhone pretty soon. Is this a sign of the times? Can't blame TT if it is true what with some USA carries disableing GPS on many phones except for their own software. Am I wrong about this or is TT7 available and I just cant find it. Bonetbone (Ivan) says he has TT7, what map do you use? Even on the European TT sites there is no USA map listed. Can anyone recommend an alternative to tomtom. Would also like to have "text to speech", (program announces the actual street name, like "turn left at Abbot and Costello" as opposed to just "turn left". Also would like it to use the street numbers to navigate to the right address. Last edited by Vacs; 06-27-2009 at 12:43 PM. |
