Went to Sprint store

Went to Sprint store today and told them about the problems with holding a charge. The stats call for battery to have up to 200 minutes talk time and up to 9.5 days standby time - I am getting maybe 30 hours standby . They checked my battery and said it is taking a charge (duh) and that when a new battery is available, that they would order me one. Who knows when that will be..... There is an extended life battery at
www.wirelessground.com/utspmovewixv.html - don't know if it makes sense to buy one just yet until this issue is resolved.....

I run activesync with exchange server + IM+ non stop (constant data transfer) in an area with poor signal all day and repeatedly turn the device on to chat and it still lasts for 10 hours or so...

I had the phone charging all night (and my alarms didn't go off, but that's another can of worms). I unplugged it at 9:00AM. Battery was at 10% by 4:00PM. I only made two short phone calls during that time.

My battery was really good when I first got the phone. It would last 10 hours in an area where it would alternate between no signal and one bar - checking IMAP mail every 10 minutes.

Now, I have perfect signal all day, checking mail every 10 minutes and the battery is about dead by the end of the day. That is with no phone calls and plugging it in a couple times during the day.

Same problem with battery. I make sure all programs are closed and not running in the background and still battery runs out very quickly.

Response from HTC

This is the response from HTC to my email regarding the poor battery life:

"Thank you for your inquiry regarding battery life of your device.

We understand how important is a good battery life in a device and thank you for bringing this to our attention. Sprint has their Technical Support team for their customers. I would recommend you to contact them for support related to this issue and they will escalate it to the concerned department for further investigation.

All the models launched are the result of meticulous research and goes through a rigorous testing. There is no such known issue with this device and nor with any similar models sold by the different carriers in US and Europe.

Testing the device with another battery is the only way to determine if the battery or the device itself is causing this issue. There are other factors also which can effect the battery standby time, like if the signal strength is weak around your area the device will consume more battery. Use the original wall charger to charge the device for at least and not more than for four hours. Also follow Battery Saving Tips to conserve battery.

Battery Saving Tips

How long your battery power lasts depends on battery type and how you use your device. Here are a few tips on saving battery power:

 When the device is not in use, press the Power Key to switch off the display.

 Tap the battery icon ( ) on the Today screen. On the Advanced tab of the Power settings screen, you can specify when your device automatically turns off the display to conserve battery power. For optimum conservation, specify three minutes or less.

 Use the AC phone charger to plug your device into external power whenever possible, especially when using a storage card or when using a modem or other peripherals.

 Adjust the backlight settings. For more information, see “To set the backlight to dim after a time delay” in Section 4.

 When you are out of range of wireless networks, turn Wi-Fi off. Searching for networks consumes a lot of power. For more information, see “Wi-Fi” in Section 11.

 Turn Bluetooth off when you are not using it. For more information, see “Using Bluetooth” in Section 11.

 Lower the volume.

 Close battery-intensive programs, such as the Camera, when you are done using them. Make sure the programs are ended and are not continuously running in the background. For more information about ending running programs, see “To close a program” in this Section."

I suggest that anyone out there who has this issue, take the time to email HTC and Sprint - maybe they'll make an effort to resolve if more people speak up - I really like the phone and don't want to give it up unless they can't resolve this issue.......

I have had my phone for a month and find the battery comfortably lasts through the day; however, I have done the following to maximize battery life:

1. Turn off Receive all IR beams
2. Turn off Bluetooth when not in use. (On ~3hrs a day)
3. Use a Black skin with white lettering that permits me to run the brightness at 50% on battery.
4. Poll email instead of push.
5. Set Activesync to run manually so it only runs when connected to USB.

The result is better life than I had on my 6700.

The more issues I'm hearing about this device, the more I'm glad I stuck with my 6700 in the end.

After tweaking my AKU to 3.5, installing 1.41 radio, turning down the brightness on the screen, and shutting off IR beams, my battery will last me two days with heavy EVDO browsing and a few phone calls.

My phone was great for the first week or two. I used to be able to go 2 or 3 days with out charging the phone now I cant go a day with out charging it. I have tested this with all my programs installed and with a hard reset with nothing installed. My roommate has experenced the same issues.
