Tehering question

If any of you can answer this, please do so:

I just want to know if any of you who are using this pdanet are still having to pay for your $15 or $20 data plans with your carrier?

You do not have to have a data plan, but without a data plan you will have to pay a fee per KB of data transfered (I don't know the current rate, but I think it's somewhere around $0.03 per KB on Sprint).

The advantage of the Interner Sharing hack / PDAnet / USBModem / etc programs is that you do not have to pay for a PAM (Phone as Modem) plan on top of the data plan.

I tried tethering just for kicks today without editting the registry or anything. Anyway, I could no longer make data connections (phone / text were fine) and when I called Sprint CS they made me do a hard reset back to factory defaults.

I now realized it was my attempt at tethering this afternoon that messed things up. Oh well, I'm on the Alltell ROM now instead of 6.9x.

Re: Free Tethering? I think so.

I see nowhere under connections where it says "phone as modem." Am I missing something?

Re: Free Tethering? I think so.

If you're using any of the newer 6.1 custom roms based from no2chem or DCD then I believe the phone as modem connection profile has been removed. Otherwise, you should be able to go into connections from System, the Advanced tab, and then Edit under dial-up connections. There you should see the two connections Sprint PCS and Phone As Modem.

Re: Free Tethering? I think so.

Also, as the OP, I can confirm that, through using this hack, I have never been charged from Sprint for any data usage other than the 10 dollar data plan. (and I've downloaded movies and many more gigs of data, as well as getting rid of my high speed internet connection at home. I solely use my phone as my net connection) =)
