Well I've used both PAM and PCS and haven't noticed a speed difference at all, I haven't did it for awhile because I think Sprint would see this right away, and maybe take action. I'm actually tethering with PAM right now just to check it out again.

Here's how I make it work......

Go to start/settings
click on connections tab
click on the connections Icon
click on manage existing connections
select Phone as modem option

Now just follow the instructions in the other post exactly except...instead of the Usb PCS option select Usb PAM.

When you first connect with IE it should say Phone as Modem in the pop up balloon.

Use at own risk of charges... Posted Via PAM LOL

As far as I can tell by examining the entries in the phone, "Phone as Modem" and "Sprint PCS" are identical. They both execute exactly the same set of parameters for their respective data calls. As far as I can tell, to the Sprint Network they are indistinguishable. Keep in mind that the name of the communications entry is never actually transmitted to the network.

I edited the WModem registry keys and I can connect fine using SprintPCS. However I get disconnected constantly. I don't tether much, but it's really annoying when it happens.

It happend to me a lot at first, but all of the sudden doesnt happen at all. i also noticed that if you start IE before getting in, it helps

Do you use BT or USB for tethering? When I tried last weekend I was just using BT. So I'm not sure if it was the Vision connection or PAN that was dying.

Hello, I have a quick question. I am planning on buying the mogul while I am in Oregon (until tomorrow). I was wondering if I could thether this to my laptop without being charged? I currently have the sero plan and a samsung a900m that I disabled NAI on. Can I disable NAI or something on the Mogul and get online? Thanks

I'd highly suggest that instead of just blindly posting in here like you have, you should read this thread in it's entirety. Your question has been answered numerous times already.

You have to download one of the many free registry editor's that are out there. Don't have my phone on me right now to check what one i'm using. I think it's called something like PHM registry, or something like that.

Hey Nice Sol.

Anyways, I was tethering two weekends ago by just disabling the NAI and my bill will come out next week so I will confirm if I was charged or not for it. A side effect I did notice (at least on my phone)....when the phone would go into sleep mode, it would not accept incoming texts or phone calls....as soon as I hit the power button to wake it up, the phone would ring and then say missed call....or like 4 or 5 missed texts would come in. Has anyone else exprienced this? Before I did the NAI disable, phone calls and texts would come in normally whether the phone was asleep or not. So I re-enabled the NAI and the phone started working normally again. Perhaps I am just crazy here.

Try this lemme know if it atleast gets the internet to work on your phone,
Go to setting
Phone
Click the services tab
click internet
Then click get settings

see if that fixes your issue. :)

Thanks man :) Got rid of it though, now im rocking a 2005 Acura TL

I had to do a hard reset and I still had the problem. Took 30 mins on the phone with advanced tech support to get it to work. I tried the tech support before hard resetting and he told me I needed a hard reset. hmm. bet there was some way for it to work.

*side note. damn the phone is so much faster without my installed stuff. Probably the HTC home customizer.

xanbo 09-06-2007 05:09 PM

This is very good info, thanks everyone.

It's so easy I don't understand why anyone has a problem, just make sure activesync is installed as it also installs the modem drivers.

1. Change registry entry for multi-nai
2. Plug usb in computer only
3. Open IE on 6800
4. Open Internet sharing, leave settings usb and PCS then hit connect
5. Plug usb into 6800, wait a few seconds for it to set up connection on computer, you can now close IE now as well.

That's it, remember when your done hit disconnect on your 6800.

i just followed these steps by Primenall...works perfect...my other phone i guess was malfunctioned piece of hardware. did a ROM swap hard reset everything...still didnt fix the 67 error code i was getting...just got a new phone monday and i'm tethering from it right now to test. works great Primenall.

Primenall 09-07-2007 06:41 PM

Yeah that's great, just remember to always hit "disconnect" before you unplug the cable or close Internet sharing as that can cause the 67 error if you don't.

Jago 09-11-2007 05:54 PM

I can confirm no additional charges from Sprint for tethering last month. I just got my bill. I tethered using the Multi-NAI disable registry tweek and also just the Internet Sharing w/o the tweeks. I suggest just disabling the NAI to be on the safe side though.

PDANet! is the best no problems or headaches!!

eduardmc 09-11-2007 07:01 PM

i can confirm that i was not bill data tethering using internet sharing and disabling only NAI, i used it for the entire month from 8-4 monday to friday. no heavy downloading, just chatting and webbrowsing. sometimes i do get the 67 error code. but i only go to internet sharing press connect, (with out any cables connected to the cell) nothing happens, then i go to msn explore and it connects back to #777. it always works for me. i also been doing tethering using bluetooth with internet sharing , is not very stable cause i get disconnet alot.

cobra9777 09-11-2007 08:15 PM

I'm in tethering heaven, thanks to everyone here. Not sure why I waited so long to try this. I did the multi-NAI change and connect via bluetooth most of the time. I get the dreaded error 67 occasionally if I forget to click disconnect before actually disconnecting. Sometimes I get into a rapid-fire loop of sorts where the mogul is making multiple attempts to re-establish a data connection (and popping up mulitple error 67 notifications) so fast and repetitively that I can't seem to click disconnect quick enough. (probably resulting from the registry change to make EVDO always on). In any case, I've always been able to stop the onslaught of error 67s within 3 or 4 trys.

One issue I've noticed is the speed difference on bluetooth vs USB. After noticing some sluggishness, I ran several bandwidth tests today. I typically get ~650/120 on USB (same as the mogul by itself), but I'm only getting ~300/100 on bluetooth. Feels like dial-up. There's a fair amount of variability, but I ran enough tests to see a pretty clear pattern. Is this to be expected with bluetooth? Is this a continuation of the BT issues with this device? Is there perhaps some MTU/RWIN settings that would help optimize the tethering connection?

Thanks again for all the info here! Great forum.

kilmarac 09-12-2007 07:19 PM

Ive been having lots of problems the last few days with this. Was working fine, then suddenly I cant use it anymore. Keeps giving me the error 67. Then after it does that, it wont even let the phone itself connect to the web, and finally requried a full hard reset before IOTA would reprovision the service.

JBaker 09-17-2007 01:23 PM

anyone else get " the remote party has disconnected" ? and a 67 error? i disabled NAI and i cant seem to connect

I did this and my phone says connected, but the web browser won't load a page, I normaly use a wireless network at home, disabled that but can't figure out how to connect to the network. Everything seems fine on the phone its the computer I'm having trouble with. Any help would be great.

sorry, it seems all works fine now... Thanks for the tips and tricks as I cross my fingers and hope my bill doesn't go up....

hi there nooby in da house,
thanks to all of you guys for all the info. Finally I got my 6800 connected to PC and writing this message.
I'm tethering with USB connection through PAM. To get it to work I had to use mini opera instead of IE. Hope it will help somebody.
I got Down 992kbps/up 144

ebbtide 09-22-2007 02:34 PM

Thanks all! Works great on mine. I also get the 67 if I don't click disconnect first, but a connect/disconnect in internet sharing while unhooked clears it up.

wood 09-29-2007 11:04 AM

Just downloaded PDAnet 1.80 here: http://www.junefabrics.com/pdanet/

Up and running in 2 minutes after download. Works perfectly, on it right now. No tweaks needed.

2.4 Mbps it says

sandiegodude 09-30-2007 02:56 PM

Which version of pdanet are you using?
thx

ebmorgan 10-01-2007 12:32 PM

Well, ##3283#....or ##data# doesn't let you change anything. Every change I made doesn't take. Still said "Mobile IP only". So i went to the main programming menu, ##778#...View Info>M.IP Settings and changed it in there and it took.

Now to try these so called "hide tethering from Sprint" reg hacks.

ebmorgan 10-01-2007 12:44 PM

Well, I'm pretty sure this doesn't do anything for you. I just got it working on PAM and my connection spped is worse than the "Sprint PCS" method. I testing in the same config in the same location.

But now I'm getting Error 67s all the time on the phone when not PAMing.

I'm going back...

ebmorgan 10-01-2007 12:53 PM

I went back to the original config and still getting 67s. I suggest not doing this so called hack. There is no imperical evidence that it does anything....and plenty of proof that it can F things up.

well i been doing tethering with NAI disable for 2 month now without any charges and any problems every day for 8 hours per day. sometimes i do get the 67 error, but i only have to hit connect in internet sharing and then open explore. it connects right away.

ebmorgan 10-01-2007 03:19 PM

I don't think any of this is needed. I uses on average 55MB of data per month while tethered without hacks and I've never been billed for additional usage. I have SERO.

Existentialism 10-05-2007 02:14 PM

Awesome, this worked, I LOVE YOU ALL!!!

MRT1212 10-08-2007 09:18 PM

I have a mogul.

Interestingly enough the way i worked around the network not connected was to enable my wifi connection on my laptop. then when it connected i disabled the wifi connection. Also the wifi connection goes to a router which isnt connected to the internet at all.

I opened a webpage on my my ppc, then i told it to connect via on the ppc ICS, then I disabled wifi on my laptop and presto it worked.

anoyne have an idea why this worked? btw, no registry hacks or edits.

ebmorgan 10-09-2007 11:02 AM

The NAI hack has been debunked....it's useless.

Here's the thread....http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=9418
