I was going crazy!
I was 2 hours and 34 minutes with sprint trying to solve the problem and nothis, I did close the internet sharing program and BUM! everything is back to normal.. no more error 67 or error 1012...
Thanks guys! |
yep same problem as everyone else. Hard reset solved it so i'm not going to tether
|
Just got my wireless bill today for my first month's usage.
I can confirm that I wasn't charged for tethering use. I've used roughly 400mb of data (both tethered and on the phone) with ICS and a trial of USBModem. I initially tethered with USBModem, but switched to ICS with the MultiNAI registry edit to 0. I'm a happy camper. :D |

12-Disable Multi-NAI HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\WModem\Multi-NAI default is 1, set to 0(00000000) After doing this internet connection sharing via usb (activating it trough phone ) doesn't work anymore. Sad It worked when multi nai was on, but now it gives me error 67 terminated connection. Has anyone found a fix for sharing without being charged? I heard people say Sprint hasn't charged them at all? If yes please post. Thanks |
*shrug*
I used my 6700 as a modem daily since I got it shortly after it was released. I still have it... it even has the old sprint logo on it :) I just plugged my 6800 in, and bam.. instant internet connection. Didn't even have to use the dialer. Kirvin's AKU 3.5 worked the same way on my 6700. |
I tired this and I don't really notice a difference in the connection speed as far as internet browsing goes. I don't use my PAM to teether at all. I'm checking my speed now...it was 500kb down last time I checked, I'll see if it's any different. Anyone else not really notice a difference in connection speed?
|
Guys,
I am able to connect but lose connection frequently. In order to get it to come back I have to click on a link on my 6800's internet explorer. Does anyone know a way to fix this? it is really getting annoying. Thanks. Killabee44 |

Anyhow, same problem as described. This solution isn't working for me :( I've been without data for 2 days now, and I'm going crazy! |
Ok guys, here is what I got.. I've been doing this for hours now.. I CAN connect my Mogul to my PC via DUN using both the USB cable AND bluetooth!
To use the USB cable I had to resort to using PDANet. It worked well (400 down/70 up) but when I right clicked it, went to settings, and Boost 3G Speed and rebooted I now get 800 down/100up. So then I was curious. I did the registry edits, and as the first post states I changed everything under HKLM>SOFTWARE>OEM>WModem to 0 and did a soft reset. After doing this I went on my PC and did nothing on the Mogul, told my PC to use DUN via bluetooth and PRESTO! I'm getting 400 down/100 up via bluetooth 1.1 on my old Compaq. Questions? Email me. Does it work? Post it. Hope I might be of any help. |
Sorry, but this thread has my head spinning, can someone state clearl:
Is it possioble to tether? How do I do it? |

Download PDANet. |
I found something out pertaining to this that may be important. I have been hard resetting like heck as well today, messing around with this and the error code 67.
The registry key WModemDUN. I set it to 1, cause it was set to 0 after a fresh hard reset. This option, to me would mean if it was actually enabled it would enable wmodem to dial up to the network instead of having to open ie first to make it connect Get this though. No matter how many times you set this key to 1, it changes itself back to 0 again!! So there is something in this phone that is resetting this registry key every time its changed!. try it.. try to set it to one, then close the registry editor, then open the reg editor back up again. it will be at 0 again. WHat do you guys make of this? and why doesnt the multi-nai key reset itself as well?? Edit, i can also confirm what someone else said. when you get error 67, open back up Internet connection sharing and hit connect, it will give you the error 67 again, but before you close the program HIT DISCONNECT! then close the program out and your internet should work again! So all you people that keep getting the error 67 code, its because you need to hit disconnect in ICS before you close the program, then everything should be alright. it is indeed some sort of profile thingy switching around as someone else said. Makes me wonder what that third registry key is, the one called CheckProfile. i've tried it at 1 and 0, cant tell a difference. Side Note: For those running linux, you can use activesync and tether using xp inside of virtualbox. When i plug the pda in, I do have native linux drivers that load, namely rndis_host and cdc_ether. Really it depends on which option though. In settings>connections>usb to pc, if you check the box in there, it will act as a network device and load the above named modules. And if i uncheck the box, it will load the ipaq module. So two totally different usb devices in one phone. Anyone who knows how to tether natively and/or has had any luck using synce to tether/sync natively please shout out. Let the real computer literate linux users be heard!. (you can use wm5storage on the phone to make it act like a removable usb device if you just want to transfer files to the phone.) but with the modules already there and auto-loading, i know native capability is there! |
Do you still use the sprint connection manager, or is there another method?
|
you mean on the phone right? I start up the internet sharing on the phone, hit connect , and then i plug the usb cable in. xp does the rest. I use the sprint pcs connection and not PAM
you will have to be more specific with your question, i dont get what you mean. |
Well, I dont see Internet Sharing on the phone... How-To s from sprints site say you have to use the Sprint COnnection manager (download and run on your computer) to connect to the net.
|
ok i found internet sharing, but now suddenly Im getting the constant erro67... LOL
|
Well after resetting the rom, I discovered an entry on sprint support that says if you try to connect three times and fail, it autolocks you from connecting to the net for 20 mins.

After reading a few forums, I set out to hack away, did the reg changes and the IP multicast setting after getting my msl number from sprint, not sure if it matters. edit: (from xda discussion on tethering http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=318292): please verify these findings for yourself. Disabling multi-NAI will prevent the carrier from detecting your usage type and should prevent any charges to your account due to tethering. eventually i just opened ICS, set it to my regular connection, which is not PAM, hit connect, status said waiting for USB, plugged in the USB cable and XP identified the connection, installed the driver and I was on my way. varying results on an ev connection with 0-1 bars (will do more testing): 500/112 ... good enough for me for free |
I followed all the steps mentioned and it works for me just fine. Only complaint is the speed 650/165 max but that is not our issue ;-) it is sprint coverage.

Thanks to everyone who posted on this thread. I just successfully tethered as per the instructions here and with PDAnet 1.8 on my very first attempt tethering with my Mogul. It took all but 15 minutes to due and than included 6 minutes to back up my phone first!!!

It is easy to miss the first time, because you would think it is in the connections section of the Settings., but in the infinite wisdom of....MS HTC, or Sprint...they put it under Programs (probably because technically that is what you doing next, is running a program to make the connection with your laptop / desktop).
|
Thanks, folks, for this thread! I, too, am tethering. Funny how you don't have to create any connections on your pc. It just exists as an internet connection. Sort of like an ethernet connection. I really like this. No PDANet or USB Modem or anything, but this procedure. Pretty cool. Has anyone had any luck with bluetooth without PDANet or USB Modem? Hasn't worked for me, yet.

Just answered my own question. I went to the laptop and joined the Mogul's BT PAN through the bt stack. Working great! 472 down and 94 up with almost no signal.

and with this answer i am now posting on my laptop instead of my mogul. i just want to thank everyone for finding this out. i really didn't want to use another program like pdanet or such. i came from a samsung 610 with the NIA disabled and was missing the ability to quickly get on the net using my phone tethered to my laptop. i feel myself getting ever closer to getting the mogul just the way i want it. of course by then i'll have to get a new phone  |
if im on the sero plan would this affect my charges at all? and does this benefit the modem aspect of it only? or does this increase the speed i can download off my mogul..because i like to use myorb.com to watch movies from my pc but the dl speed is not as fast as i would like. so if this can help me watch movies without buffering then id try it.

Anyway, I am waiting patiently for somebody to figure out a way to just hit connect in ICS and have it work, without requiring site navigation through PIE to connect first... that is very annoying lol. |
The way i got it to work with internet sharing was first i changed only the Multi-Nai in reg, and then did ##coded#, and changed the profile value to 0, soft reset, phone provisioned and then worked fine, no error code 67 any more.
here is my speed test results http://www.speedtest.net/result/177404510.png P.S. Im from Connecticut |
i've had the 67 error nightmare that everyone else has had...i actually was on the phone with sprint tech's for 6 hours. My internet would not work aftr a hard reset and i used the ##786# to actually wipe my entire phone completely and re-entered my profile and phone numbers and it still wouldnt work. For some reason...the next day...my phone's internet started working. I think my profile actually got messed up at sprint somehow. They are shipping me a new phone so if i cant get the tethering to work on this phone i'm giong to use my new phone and see whats up with that one.
i'll edit this post later and let you know my progress...i feel your frustrations! |
Just so I am sure after you have all of this setup you just leave it on "Phone as a Modem" for the default under the setting, connections right (you don't change it back to Sprint PCS after you are done tethering)??? Using the web on the phone will work just as it did before correct??
Thanks, |
There is no need to set it for PAM, just leave set to PCS.
It's so easy I don't understand why anyone has a problem, just make sure activesync is installed as it also installs the modem drivers. 1. Change registry entry for rilphone.dll 2. Plug usb in computer only 3. Open Internet sharing, leave settings usb and PCS then hit connect 4. Plug usb into 6800, wait a few seconds for it to set up connection on computer, you can now close IE now as well. That's it, remember when your done hit disconnect on your 6800 FIRST no matter what. |

Well I just got around to trying this
1) Performed reg edit multi-nai from 1 to 0 2) follwed the posted steps by Primenall -If I leave network connection as Sprint PCS everything connects fine -If I switch it to Phone as Modem I immediately get error code 67 -when attempting to connect via bluetooth I get a message on my notebook that my device has rejected the request I'm confused |
