Re: Is tethering free? If so how to?

Search the forums. The easiest way is to use phmRegedit to remove the extensions registry entry under HKLM\COMM\InternetSharing\ and then internet sharing works like it did before the updated ROM.

Re: Is tethering free? If so how to?

Question, Im a registry noob, once I click on InternetSharing in the registry, I see Extensions listed in the pane below. You want me to highlight and delete that there right?

Once that is done I will be able to use phone as a modem?

Re: Is tethering free? If so how to?

How about this? It seems they are all some what different.

Right, the option to choose your network connection is no longer there. By default the registry is set to Phone as Modem.
For you, and everyone who wants to use Internet Sharing with the new ROM:
First, delete this file extension from your registry:
HKLM\Comm\InternetSharing
Delete this string: Extension - isext.dll
Then edit the following registry entries
HKLM\Comm\InternetSharing\Settings\ForceCellConnec tion
Change from Phone As Modem to Sprint PCS
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\InternetSharing\LastCellCo nnection
If it displays Phone as Modem change it to Sprint PCS
Or you could just install the cab file I posted in this thread which will edit the two registry entries.
Some people have said the two registry edits aren't necessary, but I guess it doesn't hurt.
Remember, excessive usage might get your account flagged by Sprint, so be careful.

Re: Is tethering free? If so how to?

Yeah, I really dont mind but I like the challenge - however when I search I find multiple ways to do it. Which one is accurate? I want to be able to turn my phone into an access point or even better have the option to choose usb if needed. I have to admit the wifirouter is awesome, but before I pay for it Iwould like to try the internal.

There are some many dead threads out there that do not point to a solution, the only advise is to search, there is nothing in the faqs - I guess its a good thing in a way so that not so many people will abuse it.

Another thing is I have so many tweaks on my phone and it is working perfectly - I dont want to have to redo it.

Just looking for some info or help, I dont need some one to walk me thru it, just to be pointed in the right direction, or the correct terminology to search for perhaps. After all that is what makes this forum so great? Thanks guys!

Re: Is tethering free? If so how to?

So my Verizon phone doesn't have the Internet Sharing program on it. I'm not going to update the rom on this phone. (This is a replacement phone from Asurion and it shipped with 6.1) I've tried the ICSControl program but I get an error "FATAL: NAT driver not found.
Is Internet Sharing out there somewhere as a stand alone install CAB?
