Is tethering free? If so how to?

I have been trying to get my laptop to you the internet thru my 6800 but no go - keeps giving me an error code and is looking for a user name and password. I called sprint advanced tech support and they say I need a plan $45 a month - am I mistaken and can someone drop a link to make this work? I love this place!

Re: Is tethering free? If so how to?

How does that work? Will it allow my pc to hook to my mogul (6800) as a wireless router and will I surf the net via cell?

WM WIFI Router basically turn your device into a wireless router but not a secure connection. No tethering is not free. I you have an unlimited data plan I wouldn't worry about doing. Just watch your usage.

Re: Is tethering free? If so how to?

try this - works for me

Start off by NOT connecting the USBcable to your laptop.
1) Connect to the internet on your Mogul via IE or ActiveSync so that your phone is connected to the
Sprint PCS connection via #777.
2) Click the Start button > Programs
3) Open the Internet Sharing program
4) Choose "Sprint PCS" from the
Network Connection options
5) Click the "Connect" softkey and the status should read "Connected" or "Check USB connection"
6) Connect the USB cable to your laptop and the Windows Vista network and sharing center will automaically detect the network connection after it loads the needed
drivers.
7) Manually disconnect the usb cable BEFORE closing Internet Sharing window.

Re: Is tethering free? If so how to?

All of you need to go back and read post 1 where he says he was told he needed the $45 data plan to make this work and that is where he should start first. Athough it isnt the $45 business plan you need but rather the $30 personal plan. They both do the same BTW do please dont ask that what are the differences......LOL

Then you can proceed with WiFiRouter or PDANet.

Re: Is tethering free? If so how to?

Well I am currently running the wifirouter thing and it is awesome and just what I was looking for. For $30, one time, not a bad deal, just dont want to throw up any red flags. Probably going to use it only once in a while when my wife is driving - hehe!!!

I did search this one out and found there was a bunch of how to's on it. None of them were able to help especially when people posted the same error message as I did above.

HOWEVER, check this out, I called sprint and was told that the old rom is still allowed to usse phone as modem - but the new rom is just so good - that I dont want to revert back.
