Originally, you weren't supposed to be able to tether on Alltel unless you had the tethering option on your plan. It would disconnect on their end and you wouldn't have internet. WMWifiRouter and one other program (PCLink or something like that) would make it appear as if your phone was the one using the data and not a connected computer. If you used the internet sharing option without the plan then you would be charged /mb.
The option USED to cost $10 a month with smartphones and $25 a month with any other phone capable of it. Now Alltel has changed it to be $30 a month with any phone. It kind of blows, but what are you gonna do.
I added the $10 /month option on my phone before the prices changed, even though most of the time I used WMWifiRouter. I figured it would be easier in case I ever switched phones and didn't have access to that program or if it didn't work properly and I was charged for the data.
As for whoever said that WMWifiRouter does bad things to your batter, you better have it plugged in while using that program. It will drain your battery faster than most any other program.
