Re: Just bought the XV6800 for verizon.. need help.

I love the phone... Posting from it now.

I'll second the rec on the iFonz app. Works well. I actually prefer the 0.9 version over the latest release... I don't have to restart the app as often.

You may also want to install ZapIt and map it to a button you'll use to shut down apps (big complaint about WM devices is that there's no true close).

I use the HTC Home set up that you can find here on the forums.

It's also worth mentioning that I found the "kitchen" Roms to be less stable than the official ones. Until you start running out of memory, I'd just stick with Verizon's Rom & add programs you want.

That's my 2 cents, anyhoo.

I and hundreds of others seem to disagree with the statement that stock ROMs are more stable than Kitchen ROMs. I hate to even qoute that statement. Everyone is entitled to there opinion but my guess is that you didn't build a very good ROM if you found the stock ROM to be better.

You're probably right... maybe I didn't build a very good ROM the dozens of times I did so. I tried just about every combination I could think of, and some of the results were very good.

I don't necessarily think the stock ROMs are better, they're just inherently more stable, in my opinion. The stock ROMs are full of garbage that most people will never use. Once they're upgraded with the official updates, though, they're as reliable or moreso than anything else I've ran on my phones.

SSORG87 is coming from the position of having a new phone & not knowing much about it... to suggest to him that he should jump into the kitchen & start mixing & matching features is dangerous. He sounds to me like a complete novice & is more likely than any of us to brick his phone.

Before he jumps into the kitchen, I think he should try adding & deleting programs, first. He should find out what he likes and get a good bit of experience in using the phone... learn its weaknesses and strengths. After a while, he'll run out of memory and want to fix it. By then, he'll have learned a good bit & just might be ready to go cooking... The LAST thing I want to see is another person saying, "Help, I bricked my phone."

Considering he's already posted a thread complaining that he can't even get the kitchen to run on his computer, and I'd say we're looking at a countdown to his phone being bricked...

I'm not trying to diss the kitchen. It has amazing potential, but it is NOT for a person who just got his first ppc.

again... just my 2 cents...

Your mileage may vary, void where prohibited, see rules for details.

20273 is amazingly stable. Try flashing off of that.

You do not have to custom flash to get gps working on XV6800. There is a fix for the MR1 Verizon update on XDA developers. For those who want to keep the MR1 Verizon Update, here is what to do!

The best way to get the GPS fix working for any GPS software after MR1 update is to:

1. Set your GPS location on.
Start>Settings>Phone>Services Get Settings of location setting. Turn LOCATION ON

2. Check External GPS settings
Start>Settings>System> click on External GPS set program port to Com4. In the Access setting make sure the Manage GPS is checked.

3. Start the VZ Navigator, and run it until it initializes with Verizons's settings. Put in a destination address and try to get the route. You will get a error if your do not have a subscription to VZ Navigator with Verizon. That's ok. We just want the initialization process. Close VZ Navigator.

4.Install the Valhalla Legends GPSServer.cab from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...424387&page=12
page 12 post 113,
Copy the Valhalla cab to your Device or Storage Card and run it from there. Allow it to install on your Device(Main Storage).

Do a soft reset

5. Installed and run Google Maps or Live Search, and test it. You may have to go outside. You should be up and running now.

Boy I agree 100%.

I have three XV6800's sitting here. One has the stock verizon radio & ROM.

The 2nd one has dcd's 3.2.6 & the 3rd has one I did myself with Touchflo.

The stock verizon phone is BY FAR the slowest & least stable of the three. I'm sure that is partly because it boots with the least amount of available memory so it freezes up & needs a soft reset more often.

Re: Just bought the XV6800 for verizon.. need help.

I agree with stock ROMs being limited and not as fast or stable. That is why we hack and tweak with custom ROMs. I also use 20273 and love it. As for the maps you are asking about, there is a google map downloader that will let you DL portions of a map when you are online so you can use it later w/o having to be online.

Yeah, go look in your C drive at C:\ttn240mfg\titan_exitbl.exe and click on that file or google the file Titan_exitbl.exe which exits the bootloader
