Long Messages Truncated: Preceding msg modified, Media objects removed

When somebody on verizon with a dumbphone sends me a text, I get the first 160 characters, and then "preceding msg modified, media objects removed" as a second message.
Now, interestingly, my phone is cloned, and appears to verizon to be a v3m, which is entirely compatible with verizon's extended messaging service. I have the palm threaded app installed, too, but I don't think this makes a difference.
Anyway, the point is, somehow, the sms server is detecting what my phone really is, and is truncating my message appropriately. Or, it's being done by my handset itself.
So I'm curious if all of you with non-cloned phones get this same error when somebody sends you a text longer than 160 characters.

Re: Long Messages Truncated: Preceding msg modified, Media objects removed

I have an Alltel 6800 and I have gotten the same message several times when receiving mgs from my wife. She has an Alltel LG Scoop and she isn't even trying to send any pics or emoticons or anything like that. It has been frustrating. I have been looking around trying to find out what's going on, but I haven't seen anything on here yet.

Re: Long Messages Truncated: Preceding msg modified, Media objects removed

If you searched, there are multiple threads about this on every smartphone/ppc forum. It is a known issue, and a limitation of Verizon's network. "dumb" phones can't send long messages over 160 chars, to "smart" phones. The reverse (sending from you smart) works fine. There is currently no fix or workaround. It sucks hardcore.

I suggest calling verizon to complain, frequently. The issue, as they like to say, "it's the network".

Yes, and I could completely understand this except that my phone is cloned. "The network" thinks I have a razr. So why is this message still appearing?

It seems like its still an issue... I got it on the i760, moto Q and now my Titan...Seems kinda backwards that the "Smart" phones gets an error message while and old brick Env1 can text all day....
