US Cellular Customers get in here!
OK, after my repeated bugging of USCell, they have punted me to the maufacturer of the phone, UT Starcom.
It is unacceptable that USCell has not released a ROM upgrade for the 6800.
US Cell customers should call the following numbers and complain at them that:
1) US Cellular is the only carrier to not release a ROM update that enables the GPS in an official capacity. (OK, maybe they aren't the ONLY, but all the big carriers have updated - USCell is pathetic for not doing it). Ask them to spend the requisite 20 minutes to cook up an official ROM.
2) US Cellular WILL NOT be able to upgrade the 6800 to WM 6.1. Their techs "don't have anything to do with the inside of the phone" (their words). Ask the tech reps to take care of the WM 6.1 update while they are working on #1.
Here are the numbers to call for UT Starcom:
800-229-1235 M-F 8:30-5 ET
866-806-9990 24 hours but no techs outside of 8:30-5 M-F
EDIT - 3) And here is the # for HTC to contact them directly: 866-449-8358. They have told me that they will not update the ROM until US Cellular tells them to, so I went beck to square 1 and began calling USCell again. Hopefully if some more of you do this also we can get an OFFICIAL update rather than have to make our own ROMs.
If they receive indication that their customers are unhappy, maybe they will act. This is not for harassment, but for them to receive direct feedback from their customers.
My main complaint is that the phone was marketed to me and other customers as GPS enabled (and not just that locator that phones have had for years). So, I will bother USCell and UTStarcom as much as is necessary to have them make good on their product.
You should, too.
