Overclocking is the process of forcing a computer component to run at a higher clock rate (more clock cycles per second) than it was designed for or was designated by the manufacturer
Link On the 6700 we could use programs such as XCPUScalar to overclock the processor to 624MHz I don't think anybody has been able to overclock the processors in the 6800.

As a hardware engineer who designs ARM based embedded systems for a living. Overclocking one of these systems will not be a trivial task. Unless, they purposely left headroom in the design - then it would be fairly easy. In a PC you get to select the speed of your memory. In a system like this you have what you have because it's mounted on the pcb. Most PC motherboard have programmable clock generators too, most systems like this don't. Most ARM systems use a standard frequency clock and use on chip pll's and system registers to select the output frequencies.
So, your only hope, is that the processor is not running at it's max already. Because getting a higher clocking rate is not trivial in an embedded system like this. I'm not saying it can't be done - it's going to be either really easy or almost impossible - and the later is much more likely. It's also the same thing for a memory upgrade on the Mogul/6800, the chip is a 2G/1G flash/ddr hybrid in a BGA by the looks of it from Samsung. Internal Pics of unit on XDA forum. I don't know how many of you have replaced a bga - but again it's non-trivial. Again, could be done, just not easily - unless you have access to the proper equipment. |

I was under the impression that the 6800 & 6700 had similar processors. Currently I have a xv6700 running wm6.1 overclocked to 520mhz and was looking to upgrade to a xv6800 since I cracked my screen a few weeks ago. I had assumed that I would be able to overclock the xv6800 also but I guess not Does anyone know how a xv6800 at stock speed compares to a xv6700 running at 520mhz? This may affect my decision to either replace or upgrade, although the increased memory & built in GPS (currently using a bluetooth GPS) may be enough for me to upgrade anyways.

It has one 400Mhz processor for regular operation, and I believe another 133Mhz processor for radio related operation. As you know though, you can't compare clock speed as a direct function of speed. Like a 2.0Ghz AMD will not have the same clock speed as a 2.0Ghz Intel, or even a 400Mhz PowerPC compared to a P3 or P2. They have different pipelines and other factors apply. So in this case we would be comparing a 400Mhz ARM architecture CPU to the 624Mhz or whatever you overclocked it to PXA processor.
