Sprint PPC6800 Successfully flashed to Metropcs
After breaking my xv6700 by dropping it, I bought an used sprint PPC-6800, Changed the ESN to according to my old xv6700 using mtty and QPST procedure, flashed with a new kitchen for Verizon customization, Loaded a MetroPCS PRL on it and BAM! all good, back in business. That took me 5 hours, first timers..... but i'm glad to join the Titan forum now. Thanks for all the topics I reaserched here

Re: Sprint PPC6800 Sucessfully flashed to Metropcs

Re: Sprint PPC6800 Sucessfully flashed to Metropcs

Re: Sprint PPC6800 Sucessfully flashed to Metropcs
I have the 45 plan, unlimited internet is $ 5 a month, but internet for metropcs users is supposed to be just a simple thing that simple nokias or Rzrs can access, not full downloads, google maps, and other stuff we do with our phones. but it works , thanks to posts here with proxy and #777 stuff that i dont know whats called. No contracts, pay by month, 1X speed ( i dont know how different it is from EVDO or 3G ) i never had an internet phone till now.... It's kind of slow, but its good for me. The other day I used the Internet sharing program with my laptop and downloaded something @ 17kbps! not bad right?

Re: Sprint PPC6800 Sucessfully flashed to Metropcs
I am in south Florida, people here refer to metro PCS as Metro Piece of S***. I have to agree that their customer service and their signal is not as good as a verizon for example, but i'm with them since they came to south FLa like 7 years ago. I have no complaints. Their problem is that their phones just sucks... I used to like the Nokias but now they dont even have that. They sell stupids MotoKRZR or RAZR for about 200, 300 depending on the phone and other carriers have for 29 sometimes.... so thats the bad part, and this is where my needs to have a pda like a Mogul started. there's no ROM for metro, so I used the kitchen and cooked a Verizon rom. I came back showing "EV" and saying welcome to america roaming something, so i downloaded a PRL from the corolada page and updated the phone using the ##778 thing. , rebooted and then the phone showed 1X right away and like magic the phone was into metropcs' network!

Re: Sprint PPC6800 Sucessfully flashed to Metropcs

Re: Sprint PPC6800 Sucessfully flashed to Metropcs
I'd like some info in flashing to metro pcs.
I have a Sprint Touch and would like to flash it over to avoid the purchase of a new 'crappy' phone. |
Re: Sprint PPC6800 Sucessfully flashed to Metropcs

I'm considering buying a used Sprint Mogul myself and modding it for use on the MetroPCS network. Seems like you are saying it is possible. Please clarify: Do I need to use the $35 metroflash service - which just offers voice & texting - as a prerequisite for your mod? Or do I bypass that step entirely? Which features on your PPC6800 are now fully enabled to work on the MetroPCS network and which are not? When you say "internet" are you talking about full, fast access to the Mogul's full IE web browser or painfully slow access to the (pathetic) Metro Web browser? Like what speed? Does https: encryption work - e.g. can I pay my bills online with the Mogul? Does email work? I don't particulary want or need an @metropcs account, but @gmail access would be useful. Have you successfully set up POP & SMTP & SSL? What kind of upload/download speeds are possible thru MetroPCS network in wireless modem mode connecting to laptop? I guess unlimited data is part of the MetroPCS $45 plan, or does it violate any terrms of use? Is the MetroPCS network reliable/stable enough for all functions or do you drop in and out with voice and data? Have you successfully added MMS for sending picture to phone numbers? How do you find the camera's still and video quality? Is there a step by step you have worked out available online, or would you prefer to email/chat privately? Please feel free to email me. (Please let me know if this is OK to do in this forum as I would not wish to offend. ) Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. Oh... did I say Thanks? |
Re: Sprint PPC6800 Sucessfully flashed to Metropcs
I think some of the questions are going to be hard to answer. When Cingular (now merged with AT&T) came out, they had the best rates/prices in the cell market, but their service sucked. As they snatched up consumers, they built a better infrastructure with the investment their clients made. Eventually they were good enough for AT&T to buy out.
I've questioned metropcs' signal as well as i am interested in their service. But it's hard to get an answer to that because every area is different. Shoot, my buddy who has a motoq has excellent signal here at my desk while my sprint mogul has 1 or no bars, just the tree. Quote:

Re: Sprint PPC6800 Sucessfully flashed to Metropcs
Not sure if whether you're implying your buddy's motoq is on metroPCS network. Can that be flashed to metro? I was under the impression that motoq is not supported by the houdinisoft flashing app which metroPCS metroflash is using now. Also I read somewhere your site that there's no moto kitchen. Do I have that right?

Re: Sprint PPC6800 Sucessfully flashed to Metropcs
Unrelated question - I'm on eBay right now looking at some htc smartphones - is it true that the Mogul has a maximum video clip capture length of only 30 seconds - or is that moddable to? This actually affects my purchase decision since I use that feature alot and need to be able to take longer vids spontaneously without lugging a camcorder. If its only 30 secs, are there any comparable HTC smartphones which are limited only by flash memory capacity? Thanks
|
Re: Sprint PPC6800 Sucessfully flashed to Metropcs
Oh sorry, my friend with the motoq is on verizon.
The mogul's video record feature with video and sound captures unlimited amount of video+sound limited only by the space available on your device or it's memory card. I've taken 10 mins of video before. |
Re: Sprint PPC6800 Sucessfully flashed to Metropcs

I've looked all over the web and nearly every spec sheet and review for the mogul specifically states there's a 30 second maximum video clip length. Even the respectable cell phone review sites. But I was skeptical because it didn't make any sense why there would be such a limitation with expandable flash memory slot. I just downloaded the Mogul User Guide PDF and there is no mention of 30 seconds. I wonder how they all got it wrong? |
Re: Sprint PPC6800 Sucessfully flashed to Metropcs
MAYBE it was an older version of the rom or the previous version of windows mobil? I honestly don't know.
|
Re: Sprint PPC6800 Sucessfully flashed to Metropcs
i just tested the video function i recorded easily over 2 mins of video.
cheers! |

Re: Sprint PPC6800 Sucessfully flashed to Metropcs
Fred - I may get an HTC smartphone on ebay this weekend. Hope I can still look forward to your help in the future, and of the others, because though I do have a few geek credentials, I'm not nearly as savvy about all these mad modding matters - certainly not compared to you and the others on this forum. It looks like it might be all too easy to cook up a veggie brick with all these kitchens and cracks and things. ;-) Like the sorcerer's apprentice, knowing just enough to get into some real trouble.
Also -- Anyone have an opinion about choosing between the Sprint version HTC 6800 Mogul, Verizon version 6800, Sprint version HTC 6900 Touch CDMA, Verizon version, Alltel, etc? They all appear on ebay. Which is best? Which is most easily adapted to flashing/modding to (almost) full functionality on MetroPCS? Thanks again. |
Re: Sprint PPC6800 Sucessfully flashed to Metropcs
I want to take my 6800 to metro pcs cuz sprint is charging alot can u do a walk through with me on how to go from sprint to metro?
|
Re: Sprint PPC6800 Sucessfully flashed to Metropcs
I think if those of you who have done a sprint.verizon.whatever to metro pcs conversion could do a walk through step by step guide, it would be much appreciated by everyone.

Re: Sprint PPC6800 Sucessfully flashed to Metropcs
Guys, im not an expert at all!!! im new to the PPC phones too, i was just successfull on following instructions how to flash the phone, but i'm here more than happy to share the steps i got stuck in, the final outcome and etc.
By the way yesterday i messed up my phone by installing HTC home plugin, it would boot again .I had to hard reset it and lost all my contacts and messages.... so this is our lives here, we're never happy enough and always experimenting new software and sometimes we are not that lucky! |
Re: Sprint PPC6800 Sucessfully flashed to Metropcs
can you give me a phone number to a store that will let me connect my phone with metropcs because no store wants to connect it???
|
Re: Sprint PPC6800 Sucessfully flashed to Metropcs
I have no idea which store will do it... if you cant find it, you gotta do it yourself like I did and many other people here. they might do the flash thing only with simple phones, not pdas
|
Re: Sprint PPC6800 Sucessfully flashed to Metropcs
That's awesome...congratulations! I remember having MetroPCS when it FIRST came out and the problem (besides the obvious lack of service anywhere I went) was that they had literally ONE phone when they first came out.
