Verizon Carrier GPS still not working?

So, I'm running ROM dcd 3.2.3 radio 3.35.04

For the life of me I still can't get the GPS to work. Google just keeps searching until it times out saying there are issues finding a fix. Live does the same same. I'm even running GPS Viewer which just runs (searches) until I'm blue in the face.

What the heck am I missing? Was I suppose to do something else? Other than Phone Location On, GPS App on Com 4, Hardware set to None, baud rate at 4800 and Manage GPS Automatically being checked off?

I switched out of Verizon because they take forever to give their customers updates, whether it be with new phones being released (Sprint released the Mogul months before Verizon released the 6800) or for new ROMs to be updated. Wasn't helping I was paying up the wazoo for this kind of service.

As for your GPS problem, in order to get a fix you obviously need to be in the open. Is GPS Viewer returning data or is it not connecting? If it's continously returning "$GPSA,A,1,,,,,,,,,,,," and etc, then it's probably a radio issue and not something with your settings

Try making sure that Location Settings is turned on under Phone settings, Services. Also I have my "manage GPS automatically" turned on. Try to see if that helps.

EDIT: I tried using Holux GPS Viewer with "Manage GPS Automatically" off, and GPS Viewer gives me a COM Port error, so it seems that it's necessary for it to work.

Is your phone unlocked .41 and 2.31.? If none of this rings a bell - that's the reason

If he is running 3.2.3 and 3.35.04 it is already unlocked.

yes all I'm getting is "$GPSA,A,1,,,,,,,,,,,," and etc. Manage GPS is checked off and Locaion for phone settings is on as well.

Is your phone unlocked .41 and 2.31.? If none of this rings a bell - that's the reason

I had to unlock the phone to update the ROM to dcd's ROM...


One odd thing though. Although i never get an actual fix on GPS Viewer.. I did notice that one of the lines that scrolled by did have some numbers after it.. say one out of 10 lines would have it.. I click on the GPS Status tab and over the North "N" letter on the picture of the earch it will show a number.. liek a 4.. then below that on the lines.. like right now I have a 23 in a red box over a 3 and to the right of that I have a 24 in a redbox over a 4. I'll get a few more then they clear out.. Is that normal?

Well for me its on and if I turn it off it actually gives me a COM Port error so I don't even get the NMEA data through.

This sounds like you aren't getting a strong enough signal. Usually this happens to me if I'm inside a building and the phone isn't getting a clear enough signal from the sky. Normally if you are getting data back (numbers indicate that you are seeing satellites), and have a clear view of the sky, you should be able to get a fix eventually. It can take upwards of a minute to actually get a position lock. Verizon, being completely retarded as usual, doesn't transmit AGPS data via their cell towers. Sprint, however does, and for this reason we can get GPS locks in under 10 seconds (sometimes 5!). Just try being outside, standing still for a minute or two, and see if it locks.

i suggest miniSD card flash 3.42.30. it doesnt hard reset your device, and im getting consistent 12 second locks with a little priming on HTC GPS Tool and then switching to google maps when ive got 3 red bars. im still on dcd 3.2.2.

i just put the official alltel rom on my friends verizon xv6800. it needed to be olipro's though. it is rom 3.35 and radio 3.37. other then the alltel boot screen, they love it. and use google maps to get gps to work.

I'm running the exact same thing except my "manage gps automatically" is checked on. Just flashed to 3.2.3 last night and checked it again. Works fine for me. I'd change your setting and try that.

This did nothing for me as well. (figures). lol I guess it just wasn't meant to be. I'm so close to just switching over to Sprint.
