Re: How the hec does the Treo 700wx running WM6 have 2X the free ram of a 6800?

Wha can't we use our storage mem as ram?
Yeah yeah, I know, it would slow dowwn the device cause program memory is slower than ram, but I think it may not be as slow as we think.

Both the 700w and 700wx use the memory as ram and storage.
Storage memory and Program memory are NOT shared.
The Palm website DOES NOT list the Program/RAM memory (which is more important)
The 128 MB and 60 user available is Flash memory. It's non-volatile (which is clearly written on the website), and is used for storage of programs and other files.
Here is a comparison between the 700wx and the Mogul:

700wx / Mogul
Flash/Storage memory: 128 MB / 256 MB
Flash/Storage available: 60 MB / 146.73 MB
RAM/Program memory: 64 MB / 64 MB
RAM/Program available: 57.3 MB / 46.92 MB

Now, the RAM available is NOT what you see at boot. The OS take up a portion of RAM. So Available - OS using RAM = RAM at boot. As to the difference between the 64 MB chip and available, that's likely for all of the other internal functions of the phone. The hardware used to make calls, use Wi-Fi, GPS, etc. all probably have to use a tiny portion of RAM to communicate with the processor. Since the Mogul has a lot more features, it will use more RAM before the OS even gets to it. Another difference may be simply a chip thing. Maybe the Treo just has a better 64 MB chip that makes more of the memory available. Anyhow, whatever the difference, those 10.38 extra MB can make a world of difference...

I really don't know why you insist on arguing with me when the facts are against you.

qbunnie is absolutely correct. A quick browse on nearly any smartphone/PDA forum (like this one) will show you that it's common knowledge that Palm doesn't like to tell you how much RAM is in their devices, whether it be Palm OS or Windows Mobile. They only tell you the amount of storage available. Even a quick look on Wikipedia will prove you don't understand what you're talking about.

So kindly cease and desist.
