Re: Disable Data Connection #777

Aseidman, PocketToolman 2 has a "disable data" setting that may be what you're looking for. Forgot where I got the cab but google is you friend... I also don't have a data plan (its much more expensive on Verizon) and when I do use data (like d/l a route for Nav4All) I just turn it on from PocketToolman. Of course, YMMV.....

Re: Disable Data Connection #777

Will regular GPS work if I disable AGPS? Yes I am comfortable tweaking the registry, done it previously. So please give a step by step and I'll let you know how it works.

Re: Disable Data Connection #777

yes AGPS is just a booster for the almost instant FIX on ur location because it uses the cell towers.
HKLM\software\htc\supl agps\ *enableagps* set it to 0
now wait about a min then exit out of the reg edit and then power down and then power on you phone

this worked on me so i hope it works on u..

dc13:
Unfortunatley it did not do the trick. In fact it seemed to disable GPS altogether. In the past the issue had to do with the HTC guardian. Once that was deleted you could go in and delete data connection information and it would not reappear after a reset.

change EnableAGPS to 0
change EnableGPSSmartMode to 0
change GPSMode to 1

and soft reset, that will set the mogul to operate in full standalone mode only,

if you want server assistance still you can try changing GPSMode to 2 (server assist) or 4 (server assist/hybrid) and that should leave the server assistance enabled BUT let it still operate in flight mode or standalone /w no service (i have not tested that)
i posted this same information over at sprintusers also.
also I havn't seen what rom your running, but in the 3.49/3.39 rom there is another setting "EnablePDEIPFromNV" you could try to disable that if it's there.

How odd. I use this and run the gps all the time.... Survives a soft reset (as I have PTM autostart). Weird.

edit: I wonder if this is a Verizon vs Sprint thing...

I also do not have data and am just using wifi only due to alltels expensive data plan plus have wifi at almost everywhere I go. After looking and looking for a tweak or hack, I figured it out myself on how to disable the automatic dialer.

The file is in the windows directory called connection.xml on the phones main storage. Modifying this below will make it disabled and will not automatically dial upon a soft reset.

I zipped the files below. **DO this at your own risk!** One is connection.xml and the other is connectionold.xml. As always, rename your old file before copying this file. I have an Alltel phone, and also have included my old connection file as well, but it will have to be renamed from connectionold.xml to connection.xml.

I used total commander to do the moving and renaming of the files.

Thanks for everyone's help and post who helped me in setting everything up on my phone and I am happy to pass along the tweak to others in this site.
