Question Clearing new SMS notification

So I beamed my friend the Palm Threaded SMS .cab file so he could install it on his Mogul and he had 2 unread SMS. He opened the file to install it without reading the 2 unread messages and now the phone is telling him that he has 2 unread messages even though when he opens the Palm messaging they aren't there anymore. Is there a fix for this or is a hard reset the only solution.

Re: Clearing new SMS notification

You will need to uninstall Palm Threaded SMS first , delete the 2 sms he has on the phone in Pocket Outlook and make sure all SMS are deleted or Palm will pick these back up. Once all is deleted reinstall Palm Threaded SMS and this should correct your friend's issue.

Re: Clearing new SMS notification

He tried to uninstall Palm threaded SMS and it is still his default messaging program. It doesn't show up in his program list anymore but it's still his program for messaging somehow. From what I've read, the only way to delete Palm threaded SMS from the phone is a hard reset, so your solution will not work. Thanks though

Re: Clearing new SMS notification

Not a problem that was just a solution that worked for me on my mogul itself.

Re: Clearing new SMS notification

Well if it worked for you, how did you uninstall the palm threaded program? He tried to remove it using the "Remove Programs" thing and it said it was removed but it still is the default text messaging program on his Mogul. How did you completely remove the program so that the default text messaging program was the original non-threaded program?

Re: Clearing new SMS notification

Sounds like he installed the application to the SD card and not the direct memory. I am slowly finding out some programs when installed to the SD card do not get fully removed. Which when they do not I have to go in and manually delete files and edit the registry in order to completely remove it from the phone.

But if all else fails then a Hard Reset maybe what is required in order to clear the application from his phone but before you do this if he installed the application to the SD card you may want to try and reinstall the application but to the main memory instead this time. Once installed , go to the add/remove programs , uninstall the application again and this may set it back to Pocket Outlook as being the default. If so then delete the SMS that are are in there. With this application I suggest using the main memory in the first place as you will get a quicker response from the application little long less headache when or if he decides to remove it again.

Tell your friend to install the program again.
A window will pop up "the previous version of,,,,,,,,,,,, will be removed before the new one is installed, select OK to continue or cancel to quit."
select OK. on the choose a location to install tap cancel.
Manually delete those messages and then install it again, this is the way to completly unintall a prgram .
