I was using Google Maps at first, than I started using Telenav. I like that way better. It does turn by turn voice with street names, plus being able to lookup restaurants or whatever along the way is sweet.

Buy (or obtain) a standalone GPS program that does not rely on an active phone connection for mapping and your problems will go away.

jk..... not sure why you are running into issues, unless the data connection is going idle on you.
