The first thing i had a hard time with was knowing what my "adapterName" was. I had to change the "DeviceName" of comm manager to the value of my "adapterName." I am just learning how to manhandle my phone so there is probably a quicker/easier way to find out what your AdapterName is. In order to see what my adapterName was, i used a registry editor(i use memaid, but there are free ones out there) and browsed to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Drivers > WLAN

Select the WLAN folder and look at the entries. You should see an entry that says "AdapterName." Write this value down. This is what you will change the comm manager entry to. Using the official sprint rom, my AdapterName was TNETW12511. So i wrote this value down. No changes have been made to the registry yet.

Now you can browse to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > HTC > CommManager > WLAN

There should be entry called "DeviceName." For me, there was a long string of text that looked like this:

{xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx}\adapterName

Where it says "adapterName" above is not what you will see. You will actually see an adapterName value. I couldn't remember what the original value was so i used "adapterName" in the example above. All you need to change is the value at the end. I did not delete or change the long string of numbers. I just changed it liked this:

{xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx}\TNETW12511

That was it. It worked great after that. It is an extremely handy feature. Now that it is working, for me, i use it constantly.

I hope this helps. Let me know how it goes.
Correct me if i am wrong, this info above is just if you want to use the 10 key com manager to be able to turn on/off wlan?

I ask this because i have seen several different problems described here.
Some units the switch quits working.
Some units the switch works, the wifi icon appears, but it sees no wifi out there, its like a bad reciver unit.

I have a few moguls i am about to take to sprint for advanced exchange but if the units, with good switches, but wont revieve can be fixed with an edit like this its worth a shot for me to try to fix them that way.
But i am thinking this is just for the comm manger to by pass the physical switch.
Has anybody out there fixured out a way to fix a unit that the switch still works, the icon turns on, but the unit will not see any WiFi systems.

Thanks in advance.

Same crap here wifi want to connect 24-7 draining my battery...bummer if anyone would know how to disable it with a few commands....i'd be very happy. Obviously commands to re-enable would give the problem a complete solution.

Same deal with mine, bought off ebay frickin gave the guy positive feedback thinking everything was fine but I switch on wifi and get the dildo looking tower icon (which replaces ev icon) no networks are detected and no bluetooth detectedeither...Since the antenna is shared for both, I'm thinking this has come loose can anyone who works on refurbishing moguls confirm a common fix for this issue? Have tried hard soft and med resets...unlocking spl 2.43 oilpro imcokeman radio updater ppckich roms, some random psiDOC_wifi_all file.. shaking etc..thanks for any help!

Re: Trouble with Wifi on PPC Mogul 6800

This might sound kind of odd but since my original post I have played with several of these units and found a couple that started working after I got a little rough with them. LOL.

I tried to squeeze the top part of the phone, where I thoght the antenna was for the WiFi, then I would hold the unit firmly by the top and bottom, and try to twist it. This is the part you have to be carefull on, you dont want to twist to hard and crack the LCD. I put all the moguls in a pile that had working WiFi, but would not recieve any signal and those are the units I tried this with. Oddly enough about half started to recieve WiFi after that.

SOLVED!!!

LOL Just Tried that and it worked! slid the screen out battery door off( less structural rigidity) holding from the bottom two thums on the camera side one just above the camera icon and one above(above meaning to the right) the power for max torque...Index and Middle of left hand splitting wifi switch and right hand index above scroll wheel twisted and pinched down left up right and bingo wifi detected! Gonna get inside there with some solder THX!
