Tether Mogul to a laptop for GPS functions?

what gps software are you using on the pc.
i have garmin city nav through mapquest but i dont t hink it has the option of using the maps as a standalone on the laptop.
are there any free gps programs that can be used on the laptop

i am using microsoft streets and trips currently. i will have iguidance soon, but i don't know if there are any free software versions for PC.
