Wifi won't work if phone radio is off?

Alright, I've searched around for the past hour and can't find any info on this. I just upgraded to the 3.35 ROM on my Mogul. Everything seems to be working good except for some reason, wi-fi won't turn on if I have the phone radio turned off in Comms Manager. Once I re-enable the phone radio in Comms Manager, wi-fi starts up just fine.

I used to be able to run wi-fi independently of the phone radio. Is there a registry tweak or something to separate these two again? Some apps I have will dial the phone data connection even if a wi-fi connection is available, so I need the ability to disable the phone to force these apps to run over wi-fi.

Again, if this has been discussed elsewhere, I'm sorry for repeating the question. But as I said, I've been searching for the past hour and I couldn't come up with anything.

Thanks for any help!

Matt

Weird...this happens for me as well. It wasn't like this on the 2.17 ROM.

I did notice though that I could turn WiFi on and then turn off the phone radio...

That happens me to too, i found that if i have turn the phone radio off first the phone enters "flight" mode which disables everything, but if you turn the wifi on then turn off the phone radio it will not enter flight mode. I dont know what causes this but it happens to me quite a bit.

In flight mode wifi won't turn on automatically via switch. However if you turn on switch then enable wifi in comm mgr, it will work.

Re: Wifi won't work if phone radio is off?

FORGET THE WIFI PROFILE APP IT IS REALLY BUGY YOU CAN STILL USE THE GREEN

Also found this post http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=19947&highlight=WiFI at the bottom he goes to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=373168 and then http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=355936

Download WiFi Profiles it let you turn configure power save when you turn the screen off so that Wifi keeps working. It also does many other things. I will also try to see what registry changes it makes to see if we can do this with out using the app.

I have posted how to disable carrier data connection so that apps only use Wifi.
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=20685&highlight=WiFI

Ignore the guy that ***at me for trying to help him

msisaac let me know if this fix the one issue you are having about apps using carrier data connection and not WiFi

Re: Wifi won't work if phone radio is off?

Is there a way to run the phone, with the CELLULAR network off, and the WIFI network on? I am going to be out of the country, don't want the phone to even try to attach to a network, but would like to get email and such with the WIFI?

Re: Wifi won't work if phone radio is off?

As I posted above, if you turn phone off, enable wifi via hardware switch, then toggle it on via Comm Mgr it should work fine.

Use a registry editor this will let you ue your phone for phone calls but disable the data network, if you just turn it off in the comm Mgr there is still a chance that it can connect specially if you use exchnage to get direct push email. you can get one by going here http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/RegEdit/.

Now this is at your own risk only do this if you know what you are doing.

Install registy editor
Open it
change

From
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A3 8-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections\Sprint PCS]
"Enabled"=dword:00000001

to
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A3 8-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections\Sprint PCS]
"Enabled"=dword:00000000

Hope this helps
