it wont come on till it's done re-drawing everything running on the today screen and the app you are running. I have a minimalist today screen with just spb time, windows date plugin, O2 meters, and messaging. and keyboard light is on in less than 2 seconds. also, with this setup my today screen has no scrollbars in landscape, and looks just as functional. I found that htc home slowed the device down quite a bit, and looked awful in landscape.
