Re: The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

Usually only items physically mounted down in a car are covered. So for example, if it were mounted in a car kit it would be covered. Mine wasn't covered when it was stolen w/ other items in a break-in to my car.

Keep telling yourself that, its because of people like you that the insurance companies can continue to make money.

I'm not saying insurance is not worth having, but I think calling it "asinine" is a far stretch. I did the math, and most people pay more than the amount the phone is worth in insurance by the time they replace it.

Only reason to get insurance is for peace of mind, or if you're the type who KNOWS you'll use it (I have a friend who replaced 5 moguls, everytime it got scuffed up he'd get a new one).

Personally, I don't have insurance. At this point, I can buy a replacement mogul on ebay for about as much as my insurance would be for the expected lifetime that I'd own this phone. What I'm trying to say is if I'm so scared of breaking it, I could buy a backup one and keep it "just in case". At least that way, should I NOT need it, I can sell the darned spare on ebay. You can't sell the insurance money you pissed away... just my 2 cents.

You are right. Insurance is not for everyone. But for a measly $7 a month (brings my pre-tax bill to $37) if I have any problems with my phone, assuming this phone is on the DNR list, the sprint store replaces it for me.
Its kept me for having to pay $200+ for a used 6700, and I have no doubt it will do the same for the 6800. It would've done the same for the OP.
Completed auctions on ebay average about $275. So long as I have one thing go wrong with the phone (its not exactly the tank that the 6700 was) within 40(!) months, things will be right by me.
I refuse to be one of those dorks that uses the holster
my phone rests in my pocket, no crappy sleeves, phone shields, or screen protectors.

i went through three treo's and am on my second 6700 since feb 07 (i'm terrible i know). i'd have spent a whole lot mor replacing off of ebay than i spent in insurance. so it has been worth it.

Re: The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

Well I have an update for you guys. First off, thanks for the suggestions and condolences. I left the phone open all night with the battery out and everything seems to be almost normal with the OS. The D pad only works when I push up (not down or sideways) so scrolling is a bust but I rarely use my stylus so that's a problem. The red light has gone off and everything seems to work otherwise but continual problems are intermittent. Whatever damage I did, it was structural and not just the battery so that leads me to believe I'm going to see more problems down the road.

I should have clarified that the phone was used. My boss upgraded to a Touch and gave me his old one so by new it was only new to me. He paid for it so I really haven't last anything yet.*

* I'm really anal about things not working and used items so I'm going to the Sprint store tonight for a replacement on my dime. I was going to get one anyways until yesterday and I'd feel better having a new one rather than a hand me down. He didn't give me any of the accessories so now I can start fresh and wait for a kitchen. I never realized how much customization I had done to my Apache until I booted this rascal up. At least now I'll have two backups (one Mogul, one Apache) if something ELSE goes wrong.

I ordered this (rubber case)
http://www.seidioonline.com/index.as...ROD&ProdID=797

and this (extended battery)
http://www.seidioonline.com/index.as...ROD&ProdID=814

today so hopefully I'll have better luck next time.

Re: The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

Good Luck with the seidio rubberized case. I had one I loved, but the bottom tab on the front plate eventually fell off. I was sad, so I RMAed it no problem. The one I got in replace doesn't fit well at all and the bottom tab of the front plate is actually too big and scraped my phone all up, as well as made it way too hard to open. So I just have it sitting in the box, doubt I'll ever use it.

I'm sure you could get a few bucks off that mogul. We are trying to upgrade the memory, so test devices are in high demand...

Good luck @ Sprint! I hope they are understanding

Re: The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

Damn, I guess when it rains, it pours :P

Only reason I got the Titan, is because I had my Apache mounted to a bracket I made on my motorcycle. The bracket was great - its a clamp for an air conditioner vent on a car, with a button release. Anyways, went on the carpool on ramp interchange, and the phone fell out of the bracket, down on the ground, I ran it over (at 80+mph), shot it out at my friend on his bike (nearly hitting him), and pulled over to walk the entire overpass with no luck (I use my phone for business, and I could have kept the memory card, and maybe somehow recover all my info).

Anyways, I didn't have insurance either, but I do now on my Titan.
